University of Oklahoma Libraries Western History Collections William Peter Haseman Collection Haseman, William Peter (1878-1932). Papers, 1902-1952. 0.20 feet. Professor. First head of OU s Department of Physics from 1909 to 1919. During leave of absence in 1917, as part of the war effort, he worked in Washington, D.C. on acoustic research for methods of locating submarines. A later result of that research was the development, with other OU professors, of the commercial application of acoustical research for subsurface geophysical prospecting. Dr. Haseman made another contribution to the field of oil production through his formula for predicting the yield of an oil pool based upon the flow from its first well. With his colleagues, he formed the Geological Engineering Company in 1920. In 1922, he became the head of the research department of the Marland Oil Company, where he worked until 1928. A biography of Dr. Haseman, written by Charles N. Gould, is in the Gould collection. Box H-9 Folder: 1. Correspondence with Dr. Burton McCollum and Dr. J.C. Karcher on seismic work, 1919-1924. a.
