From the Helm Fellow Members, I m on countdown as Commodore, and I am very pleased to congratulate Tim Broderick for his election as your new Commodore in 2018! Tim competently served two years as Rear Commodore in charge of the docks and on-the-water activities, two as Vice Commodore in charge of the property, and is now wellprepared to move up the chairs. Thank you, Tim, for your past and future service to the club. In addition to Tim, Bill McHale has moved up from Secretary to Vice Commodore, and Jim Smithwick has been elected as Secretary. Jack Fleming, one of our most enthusiastic captains, will serve as Rear Commodore. We are also welcoming two new directors: Barbara Bidwell and Gary Todd (who was elected after being appointed to replace Chuck Saraceno two years ago). We owe enormous thanks to Past Commodore Roselie McDevitt and to Director June Dowd for their contributions to NBYC s Board. They are leaving as devoted leaders who helped guide the club s direction over many years. Let s have more parties like Dancing through the Decades, organized by Patty Smithwick and Maggie Bramwell. No detail was left unturned what a FUN evening! November is a bit slow, but December will come roaring in with major cruise weekends and many social get-togethers. Is this a great club or what??? See you on the Water, Karl -Karl Lichty 637-6633 karlkorker@yahoo.com

NBYC 2017 Cruising It's hard to believe that Halloween is just around the corner with everyone running around in costume. (And no, Linda and I are not going to, despite what some of you may now expect!) Anyway, it's still excellent cruising weather. By the time you read this, Karl's Fall Colors Cruise will probably have taken place but you still have the Christmas Flotilla and Wooly Bear to get ready for. The Christmas Flotilla is really an opportunity for us to show New Bern our enthusiasm for boating: 1. It's a great opportunity for partying on the boat. 2. Its open to boats of all sizes. 3. It's a great opportunity for partying after the boating at the dinner. 4. It's a great way to use those Christmas lights you keep saying you'll put up at the house but never get around to doing. 5. It's a good excuse to have a party while you decorate your boat. 6. If it's cold, invite a crowd and you can huddle together for warmth. I think you get the idea! And remember, you don't need a generator if you use LED lights. I run about 600 lights on an inexpensive power inverter off the boat's batteries. On a slightly different subject, I hope you know that Jack Fleming is nominated to be your new rear commodore for next year. He's anxious to get started and ready to plan a big cruising year for 2018. Be sure and give him your support! -Buck Irvin, Rear Commodore 675-2772 barefoot446@gmail.com Help plan the 2017-18 NBYC Calendar! Do you have an idea? Directory Updates If you are aware of an update to the directory, please let Jim Miller know. Email is much better than meeting at Lowe s or Harris Teeter, and even better than a phone call, but any form of communication is better than ignoring it. Misplaced your directory? It is also available online at newbernyachclub.com in the Members Only tab. -James C Miller 636-3388 jcmnbnc@jayseemill.com If you know a member who is, or recently has been, sick, had an operation, or is just under the weather, or lost a family member, please contact the Sunshine Committee. -Camille Hoffman 672-1684 camhoff1@gmail.com Shipmates Information Treasurer s Report The Treasurer s Report may be viewed on eseaword in the members only section after Board acceptance. Board Meeting Minutes If you would like a copy of the Board Meeting Minutes, it may be obtained (after Board acceptance) by emailing the Secretary or by viewing on eseaword. Ship s Store We are very excited about the latest Ship's Store item ready for immediate purchase: a New Bern Yacht Club inscribed stainless steel 15 ounce coffee mug with handle. A bargain at only $10. Of course, Tervis tumblers, notecards, glass ware, hats, visors, men's and women's shirts, burgees and license plates are at the Ship's Store table. The New Bern Sporting Goods catalog is available for perusal with various logos and writing options for embroidering. I will always help you find what you need.
