Encourage students to make their own creations with the aid of tape and staples, party baskets, hats, doll furniture, and so on. Origami is useful for learning to follow directions but does not contribute to creativity as a rule. *Warning: Do not expect more than the student can do. Collage Dough Made with half flour, half salt, water to mix. PASTING & GLUING reference sheet Squeeze a line of glue onto the paper. A little saying to get going is "Dot, Dot, Not A Lot". Smooth with the tip of the glue bottle. Whey you are finished using the glue, clean the top of the bottle with a paper towel and close the top. White Liquid Glue Use it full strength for heavy objects such as buttons and pipe cleaners. Can be thinned with water and brushed on for thin objects such as paper and glitter. Glue Sticks Be sure that there is an adult assisting with the use of glue guns. This can be spread thickly in the top of an egg carton or styrofoam tray, to hold heavier objects such as shells and pebbles. This same dough can be spread thinner and used to make collage pieces adhere to paper and other surfaces. Plaster Of Paris or Wall Spackling Put mixed plaster or premixed spackling into a shallow plastic container or box lid and quickly arrange pine cones, twigs, nuts, and the like on the surface. Liquid tempera paints can be added when mixing the plaster or spackling. The plaster will set up in about 15 minutes. The spackling takes 30-45 minutes. NEVER put leftover plaster or spackling down the sink drain, as it will clog the pipe Tip for Gluing Paper Air Tight When gluing paper you just need a small bead of glue around the very edge. Use your index finger to smear the glue to the very edge creating a solid smear of glue all the way around the paper.
