Sharpening Opportunity: o Gene offered to bring in his tool sharpening device at next meeting. o Anyone interested in sharpening their carving tools can get assistance from Gene after the meeting. Club Library: Am certain all of you appreciate the vast references in our library that are available to all Club members. We are in need of someone from the Club to step up to manage it. This does not take a great deal of time or effort and is primarily done at each meeting. Currently Rodney has been pinch-hitting, along with a number of other club activities he is involved with. But he cannot do this on-going. Here is what the Club Library position entails: o Set up the library references, from the cabinet and onto a table, for each meeting and put them away at end of meeting. o Ensure each item is in the correct category box and in sequential order. o Maintain a check-out / check-in list ; and follow up with members who have checked item out but have not returned it after a reasonable period of time (i.e. 2 months). o Make recommendations as to what other references the Club should have. Let s support your Club by having a member volunteer to facilitate this valued library as of the November meeting. Please let Gene know. Club Name Tags & Shirts: o Did not receive the sign-up sheet for these items, from the October meeting. Will need to do this again during the November meeting, place the orders, and then deliver items at the December luncheon meeting. o Name Tags All-Sport Trophy & Engraving has our art work. Jon Vanderheyden, owner, quoted $8.00 + 5 percent tax for each tag. No minimum order. One week for delivery. o Shirts - Top Dog has our art work. Kathy Nelson, owner, quoted $11.00 + 5 percent tax for t-shirt and/or $17.00 + 5 percent tax for collared t-shirt. Sizes small to X- large. Minimum order is 6. Color choices are: dark (tarnish) or white. Two weeks for delivery. Club Experience and Interest Survey: o Cedric Richeson will be sending out a club survey to solicit member carving interests and level of experience. Survey is designed to capture: member competition level; type of carving interested in and years of experience doing it.
o o Feedback from the survey would help board determine meeting agenda and seminar suggestions that meet Club needs. It could also help the Club build a mentor program. Something the previous survey noted as a need. As soon as you receive the form, please fill it out and return it to Cedric so he can compile the results and share them with the Club membership. Oshkosh Bird Fest: o Oshkosh bird fest to be held at Menominee Park in Oshkosh. The event will have live birds of prey presentations; a tailgate party for birders; bird walks with knowledgeable birders; bird banding; children's activities; informative exhibits (at the Masonic Center and at Gallery walk businesses); native plant sale; and concessions. o Event web site: www.oshkoshbirdfest.com/bird-city-wisconsin.html o Our Club will be supporting this event. Would like a few members to help set up a table and do carving during the event. It would be a great time to market our Club as well as show our carvings and skills to those in attendance. o Gene passed around a sign-up sheet for those who are interested. There were four that initially signed up. However, more adds to the fun. If interested, see Gene. Club Name Cards: o Marge Berg, who has been doing a terrific job on our Club WEB site, created club name cards. The Card has our Club name, WEB address and email address. Pick up a few from Gene Bengel and put them in your wallet for reference and/or pass them out to perspective members. o Nice idea Marge! Thank you. Demonstration: o Pete Fronsee provided a demo and facilitated a discussion on a suede-tex flock-on felt fibers product used primarily on the bases of his small / medium sized carvings and wood turnings. Discussion regarding applications identified a number of other areas it could be used for (i.e. jewelry box liners, ornaments, baby chick plumage, etc.). The product (DonJer suede-text fibers, paint-adhesive and flocking applicator) can be purchased locally from Woodcraft.
