Page 2 Presidents Desk By Dave Fisher There is a chill in the air, pumpkins for sale at every market, stores setting up Christmas displays and we all know where this is going.. yes, it show time. Next month we be presenting the Sculptures and Designs in Wood, our 31 st Annual Wood Carving Competition and Show. Plus the 2 nd Annual Artist Craft Fair. I hope everyone is busy working on their entries and working with their committees to help make the show a great success. Big thank you to all the folks that have stepped up and volunteered to work at the show. Without your efforts the show would not go on. The more people that participate the more fun well all have. And, since the October membership meeting is the last general membership of the year and the nomination process has completed, we will be asking for approval for the following people to be accepted to the PWCC board for 2019. Tanya Hammond Gay Greer Heyward Davis Diane Bagwell Remaining on the board, approved in 2018 will be Jim Hayes, Lila Gilmer, Charlie Arnold and Ron Steenson. Dave Fisher will be past president. Executive board will be as follows: Tanya Hammond, President Gay Greer, Vice President Jim Hayes, Treasure Ron Steenson, Secretary Dave Fisher, immediate Past President It is important to remind folks that the board alone, does not operate the club, but it is the efforts of the many that contribute the greatest of any organization. Final Show Planning meeting will be held Thursday Nov, 1 st in the club room. It has been a busy year, the year end calendar is full of fun carving events. Keep Carvin Dave Fisher

Page 3 Angels of Hope 4 more Angels of Hope have been distributed from members to friend and relatives in need. This makes our total for the year up to 70 Angels. Well done PWCC! 13 more Angels have been carved and turned in. just in time for our show demonstrations around the area. Angels of Hope are carved of wood, with an uplifting pose, small for young hands to easily hold, and finished smooth to the touch. We have planned a big push for Angels of Hope at the Show. Angels collected at the show will be, scheduled for distribution to Children s hospital and Ronald McDonald House of the Carolinas in December of 2018. 3 ways to participant in the Angel Project at the show. 1. Bring your completed (or near completed) Angel of Hope to the show and add it to the Angel of Hope collection/display. As a benefit to our out-of-town carvers, here is an Angel of Hope pattern, any wood type is acceptable. 2. Grab an angel cut out and carve it during the show. 3. Participant in the Angel of Hope carving contest. This is Robert Bob Davison, our club librarian, BIG Angel of Hope carver and the registration guy for the Angels of Hope carving contest at the show. He will assign your numbered angel cut out for the AOH carving competition. (First come - First Served) Take all weekend to carve your unique design and personality into your Angel of Hope. Remember, to place your carvers mark on the bottom. It is the carvers mark that tells the final recipient that a special wood carver, cared enough, to carve something special just for them. Return your numbered carved Angel of Hope back to Robert on Sunday, at 2:30 PM for judging. We do not expect angels to have a final finish sealer on them at the time of judging. The Contest winner will receive a ribbon and $50. However, the biggest winner will be those in our community who receive these gifts. Such as critically ill children, cancer patients or persons/families in crisis at area hospitals and care providing agencies. It s Show Time! Dave

Page 8 Carving Community Wisconsin River Wood Carvers Show & Competition By Charlie Arnold Recently I participated in the Wisconsin River Wood Carvers Show & Competition held in the Holiday Inn, Stephens Point, WI and thought some photos and comments on their show would be beneficial to our club and members. The WI River club is about our size and draws members from a number of small towns in the area, tables cost is about the same as ours and you must have a table to enter competition. The show, among the best in the east, offers the opportunity to display your work and enter competition in an environment of mostly of hobby carvers and some very good ones at that.
