Page 2 More On Leroy s demonstration Leroy Paul, was our demonstrator for our Dec, 13 meeting. He started off by walking us through how he comes up with his idea for his annual Christmas Project. Nature provided his inspiration, this year an Acorn Birdhouse. The project is turned in two parts the bottom first completed with drilling and sanding before turning top of the acorn. During the demonstration he showed how to use a texturing tool. He also talked about how tight the top and bottom had to fit. Leroy also talked about setting up to turn 40-50 items. - Michael Dunbar Steady does it After the 30th one, they get easy...

Page 11 BiCity Wood Turning Club Minutes Key items from December 13th, 2008 meeting: - Meeting was opened by President Dawson McLemore - Visitors this month: Charlie Whittle brought his two sisters (sorry their names were not caught nor did they sign in!! they just brought their vessels WOW) - Minutes from last meeting were read. - Treasurer s report for November by Ken: ending balance is over $8,000!! see treasurer s report for details. - Store & Library... pretty much same stuff. Well stocked for X-mas: With some larger sizes of regular Wood Glue... Again if you want new videos for the Library, you have to let Richard Wyrick know! - Dawson brought to the club s attention: Local Outside Turning events given by the club are of Real Value. It provides a service to our community and our youth. Plus it provides Club exposure. ANYONE who wants to bring these types of events to the club s attention should do so. - Another reminder was given about up coming AAW membership renewals. 12/31 is the deadline. - Wounded Warrior Project Update (by Bob Ingram): - We have had 3 outings (visits to Dawson s shop). ALL have been successful... thanks again to all who have helped. - Next session at Dawson s targeted for 3 rd Monday of January. - Cane Presentation to the soldiers probably will happen in the first part of February - X-mas Party Peppercorn & Parsley Restaurant. IT IS TONIGHT!!!! - The wood raffle was held. - Show & Tell: many canes, colorful vases, many pens. Two carved candlesticks (only took 30 years to make em!!!!) and the Show stealers... FOUR (or was it FIVE?) matching segmented vessels with finials...all from the Whittle Sisters... DOUBLE WOW. - For general knowledge: Harry Handen is building a store... May want turnings to sell in his store. Dawson has more details (see him). - The recent Mike Mahoney Demo opportunity has prompted a possible need for amendments to our bylaws. With the age of e-mail and only one meeting per month, sometimes club activities MAY need approvals outside the regularly scheduled meetings. Discussion was held about a potential approval process for such instances. BUT current club bylaws need to be reviewed to see if they currently provide for such situations before any amendments are made. A motion was made and approved to table the topic until the bylaws can be reviewed. - A Motion was made by Philip Peckham and was seconded to make the upcoming Mike Mahoney Demonstration an official club sponsored event. The motion was voted upon and approved. The event is to be held at Dawson s shop on Tuesday Jan 20 th 9AM to 3:30PM. Cost to those attending will be $20 (our normal all day event fee). - 100 year old Florida river logs are for sale... see Dawson for details. - Dawson has run across a Wood finish article in Taunton s FINE WOODWORKING magazine. Plus an article on Black Walnut and allergies. Both are good reading...fyi - Project of the Month ---- None mentioned. So... something round!! - Our Monthly Demonstration was given by Leroy Paul: - Acorn Birdhouse X-mas Ornament. A job well done (as usual) THANK YOU LEROY - Note the Plans for this Project will be posted to our Club Website... (Please Malcolm??)
