2 Las Vegas Medical Talk Dr. Daliah Wachs - Radio The Dr. Daliah Show Saturday 10:00 AM on 720 AM KDWN Putting her toy microphone in her mouth instead of a pacifier, Dr. Daliah Wachs was ready to entertain since diapers. She grew up in Scottsdale and Las Vegas, and earned the title Class Clown for 12 straight years. At college age, Dr. Daliah had been offered the opportunity to take on a career in singing and comedy or take a full ride scholarship to UNLV and embark on a medical career. Wanting the torture of more schooling, she chose the latter and earned an Honors Degree at UNLV. She then went on to medical school at the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Reno. Not being able to find a husband in Reno, Dr. Daliah needed to go to Los Angeles to increase her chances. So she convinced her Dean to allow her to complete her fourth year of medical school at UCLA School of Medicine and returned back to Reno to graduate. She then was thrust into a three year Family Medicine Residency which she completed as Chief Resident in Las Vegas. She then became Board Certified in Family Practice. Whetting her ER appetite she worked in an emergency room in Lake Havasu until her practice in Las Vegas opened in 2000. Dr. Daliah Wachs has owned and operated Integrative Family Medicine for many years and has taken care of, while entertaining, thousands of patients. She teaches and performs lectures to students at Tauro University, the University of Nevada School of Medicine and UNLV, serves on the Preprofessional Committee board at UNLV, was nominated Woman of the Year by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, as well as many other achievements. Dr. Daliah s dedication to educating her community continues to expand as her fun, witty, to the point answers of all fields of medical questions offers an educational and very entertaining perspective of one s health.

3 LEGISLATIVE REPORT JANE HAM When the Iraq War-which a majority of Congressional Democrats voted for-turned sour and casualties mounted, Democrats turned anti-war. Needing political cover because of their post-vietnam reputation for weakness, Democrats adopted Afghanistan as the right war. The Iraq war bad, Afghan war good, policy first won Congress for the Democrats, then the Presidency in 2008. But now, what to do about the return of the Taliban Terrorists to Afghanistan? On Aug.30, Pres. Obama s hand-picked commander in Afghanistan requested a surge of 40,000 U.S. troops to stabilize Afghanistan the same way the surge saved Iraq-the surge that then-senator Barack Obama voted against. Gen. Stanley McChrystal, Obama s Commander of U.S. NATO forces in Afghanistan, spoke in London, in late Sept., only after it became clear to him that he was not being heard by the Obama administration clear to him that he was not being heard by the Obama administration on military strategy for Afghanistan. President Obama had not responded to McChrystal s request for more troops despite having his report on the President s desk for more than a month. Pres. Obama had spoken with Gen. McChrystal only once in 70 days. He finally met with the general on Air Force One in Denmark where he had failed to win the 2016 Olympics for Chicago. Former Vice President Dick Cheney publicly accused Obama of dithering. Pres. Obama said he would decide on how many troops to send after the Afghan runoff election in November. This is now moot because the opposing candidate, Afghan foreign minister Abdullah, has dropped out of the race. Hamid Karzal has been declared the winner of the fraud-marred presidential election by default. This increases the pressure on Obama to stop dithering and decide whether to send more troops to Afghanistan-or not. The American public will not support a significant increase unless the Afghanistan government tackles the corruption and bad governance that has swelled the Taliban ranks.

4 MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY ST. VINCENTS SHELTER FRIDAY OCT. 30, 2009 Lucille Latta our Caring For America Chairwoman and her husband Bob, Sharon Williams and her granddaughter Ellie went to St. Vincent s to deliver our clubs donations. Our club donated about $200.00 and we bought jackets, socks, hats and also delivered some men s clothes donated by Nancy Bye. Sharon Williams and Ellie stayed for a tour of the facilities. We were told that St Vincent s goes to Albertsons 5 days a week and they donate thousands of pounds of food each week. St Vincent s service 7 meals a day every day. Shade Tree Shelter for abused women come for dinner each day. They close all the doors and no one else is allowed in but them. St Vincent s also supply food for other shelters. They serve about 35,000 to 40,000 meals per week. They also will serve Thanksgiving Dinner between 10:00Am and 1:00 PM on Thanksgiving day. In those 3 hours they serve 3-4000 meals. It is a great organization and they are very thankful for our donations.
