B W S NEWSLETTER February 2017 Issue #112 Cocoa Playhouse by Pat Bowlds

SPOTLIGHT ARTIST PAT BOWLDS Pat has been an active member of BWS since 2008. She is, perhaps, best known as a teacher, and she offers watercolor painting and drawing classes on a regular basis. She will be holding a BWS mini workshop on perspective drawing on April 22, 2017. Her interest in art began early when she needed to draw the structure of molecules in her chemistry classes. Pat holds a doctorate in organic chemistry and discovered that she just loved to draw molecules in perspective! Her devotion and love of watercolor arose from living in England in the early 90's while on an IBM assignment. She studied under Alan Roe, one of England's best watercolorists and illustrators and has been hooked on watercolor ever since. Pat has also taken classes under BWS teachers Bobbi Q. Brown and Linda D. Neal and frequently attends BWS three-day workshops given by visiting professional artists. While her primary choice of media is watercolor, she also works with mixed media using acrylic inks and acrylic paints. Using her drawing skills, she loves to paint landscapes, houses, interiors, historic buildings, still life subjects and boats. More recently, her interests are focused on contemporary art and abstract expressionism. Today's wide variety of new materials and techniques and modifications of traditional paints are creating new directions in art resulting in exciting new works. She is currently developing a series of classes focused on these new directions. In Splash 2016, Pat received a merit award for her entry Salt Life. She was very pleased that it won an award as this was her very Moon Rise Pat Bowlds Salt Life first painting in her new directions. Pat is heading up the 2017 Splash Student Gallery at the BWS show. She is actively working with other BWS teachers to encourage their students to enter the show. It is a great learning opportunity for the students to follow the prospectus and to give them the confidence to participate. Pat can be contacted by giving her a call at (321) 633-9712 or sending an email to pbowlds@gmail.com. For more about her work, go to her blog at patbowlds.blogspot.com/
