Page 9 f 33 3.3 Calculated parameters Using the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware, the HF4 can be cnfigured by the user t calculate either the dew pint r the frst pint. 3.4 Analg utput signals (HF42 and HF43) HF42 and HF43 With the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware any f the tw analg utput signals can be made t crrespnd t ne f the fllwing: Relative humidity Temperature Dew r frst pint Any utput can als be disabled. The scale f each analg utput can be set within the numerical limits f -999.99 and 9999.99. The D/A cnverters used t generate the analg utput signals feature a 16-bit reslutin. The D/A cnverters used t generate the analg utput signals feature a 16-bit reslutin and exhibit a small psitive ffset at the bttm f the signal range as indicated belw:. Signal type Maximum ffset at range bttm 0 1 V 3 mv 0 5 V 50 mv 0 10 V 90 mv 0 20 ma 4 µa 4 20 ma N ffset HF43 The ROTRONIC HW4 sftware allws changing the type f utput signal t ne f the fllwing: 0 20 ma, 4 20 ma, 0 1V, 0 5V r 0 10V. Bth utput signals are autmatically cnfigured with the same signal type. N calibratin r adjustment is required after changing the type f utput signal. In the case f vltage utput signals, lad requirements apply t the external device r circuit cnnected t the HF43 transmitter. These requirements are defined in the Operatin chapter 2008;

Page 10 f 33 3.5 Digital interface (HF45) a) RS-485 serial interface The HF45 has always a RS-485 serial interface. When the number f available netwrk prts is limited, this interface can be used t cnnect tgether up t 64 devices in a multi-drpped arrangement. In principle, an unlimited number f such netwrks can be mnitred with the HW4 sftware, but each RS-485 multi-drp netwrk is limited t 64 devices. The HF45 can be used either as a slave r a master, withut special cnfiguratin. The master is autmatically the device that is directly cnnected t a netwrk (PC r LAN) by means f a USB prt r TCP/IP prt. RS-485 Cmpatibility: The cmmunicatin prtcl used by the HF45 and ther AirChip 3000 prducts is nt cmpatible with the prtcl used by the previus generatin f ROTRONIC instruments. D nt cnnect legacy prducts and AirChip 3000 prducts t the same RS-485 multi-drp netwrk. b) USB r Ethernet interface The HF45 is als available with the fllwing interface cmbinatins: USB + RS-485 r Ethernet +RS-485. In that case the prtectin grade f the HF4 enclsure is n lnger IP65 / NEMA 4 rated. c) Cmmunicatin prtcl ptins The measurement data can be read withut having t use the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware. Starting with firmware versin 1.3, the HF4 ffers the fllwing cmmunicatin prtcl ptins (ASCII) which can be selected by cnnecting the HF4 t a PC running the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware (versin 2.1.1 r higher): RO-ASCII: this is the standard (default) cmmunicatin prtcl used by all AirChip 3000 devices and by the HW4 sftware. In principle, this prtcl supprts all f the AirChip 3000 functins but sme f the functins require a certain amunt f cmputatins t be carried ut by an external device such as a PC. Custm: this cmmunicatin prtcl can be used t prvide cmpatibility f the HF4 with an existing cmmunicatin system. The Custm cmmunicatin prtcl is limited t reading measurement data frm the HF4. Functins such as device cnfiguratin, humidity and temperature adjustment, etc. are nt supprted. The Custm prtcl is applicable t all AirChip 3000 devices with a digital interface and allws RS-485 netwrking Mdbus: the Mdbus prtcl available with the HF4 is limited t reading measurement data frm the HF4. Functins such as device cnfiguratin, humidity and temperature adjustment, etc. are nt supprted by the Mdbus prtcl. When using either the RO-ASCII r the Custm prtcl, the HF4 can be set t send data autmatically after each refresh cycle withut requiring a data request. When this mde is enabled, the receiving device must be listening at all times in rder t get the measurement data. Fr details, see dcument E-M-AC3000-CP 2008;

Page 11 f 33 3.6 Service cnnectr The service cnnectr (UART interface with a mini-usb type cnnectr) allws cnnecting the HF4 either t a PC running the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware r t a prbe input f anther instrument that is cmpatible with the HygrClip 2 (HC2) prbes. In bth cases a service cable is required. See Maintenance fr the lcatin f the service cnnectr and fr the type f service cable t be used. Cnnecting the HF4 t a PC is used t cnfigure the HF4, gain access t the HF4 functins such as humidity and temperature adjustment, read data frm the HF4 n the PC and update the AirChip 3000 firmware. Cnnecting the HF4 t the prbe input f anther instrument is useful nly when the ther instrument has its wn display and keypad, and has an internal menu equivalent t the menu f the HP23 hand-held calibratr. The cnnectin allws shwing the data measured by the HF4 n the ther instrument display and als allws using the ther instrument internal menu t d fr example a humidity and temperature adjustment f the HF4. HF45 (digital utputs): the digital interface (USB, Ethernet and RS-485) ffers the same functinality as the service cnnectr but des nt allw cnnecting the HF4 t a HP23 hand-held calibratr. 3.7 Sensr prtectin (dust filter) The HF4 is supplied with a Plyethylene filter t prtect the sensrs against dust particles and high air velcity. 4 User cnfigurable settings and functins The HF4 ships cnfigured as specified n the custmer rder. Mdels with analg utputs can be installed and used just as any cnventinal humidity and temperature transmitter and mst users will never need t use the HF4 cnfigurable settings and functins. Mdels with a digital interface generally require sme cnfiguratin by the user. Making use f the HF4 cnfigurable settings and functins is entirely up t the user and the apprpriate settings depend n the user applicatin. We have prvided belw a shrt descriptin f the HF4 functins and als indicated the factry default settings. 2008;

Page 15 f 33 5 Mechanical installatin 5.1 General guidelines Relative humidity is extremely dependent n temperature. Prper measurement f relative humidity requires that the prbe and its sensrs be at exactly the temperature f the envirnment t be measured. Because f this, the lcatin where yu chse t install the prbe can have a significant effect n the perfrmance f the instrument. The fllwing guidelines shuld guarantee gd instrument perfrmance: a) Select a representative lcatin: install the prbe where humidity, temperature and pressure cnditins are representative f the envirnment t be measured. b) Prvide gd air mvement at the prbe: air velcity f at least 200 ft/ minute (1 meter/secnd) facilitates adaptatin f the prbe t changing temperature. c) Avid the fllwing: (1) Clse prximity f the prbe t a heating element, a cling cil, a cld r ht wall, direct expsure t sun rays, etc. (2) Clse prximity f the prbe t a steam injectr, humidifier, direct expsure t precipitatin, etc. (3) Unstable pressure cnditins resulting frm excessive air turbulence. d) Immerse as much f the prbe as pssible in the envirnment t be measured. e) Prevent the accumulatin f cndensatin water at the level f the sensr leads. Install the prbe s that the prbe tip is lking dwnward. If this is nt pssible, install the prbe hrizntally. 5.2 HF4 enclsure The HF4 enclsure cnsists f a base and a cver held tgether with 4 screws.
