Mel Levine Mel Levine joined the international law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher as a partner in 1993. He retired from the firm in 2012 but continues to actively counsel clients as an Of Counsel to the firm. He served as a member of the United States Congress from 1983 until 1993 and as a member of the California Assembly from 1977 to 1982. He is a member of the California bar and the District of Columbia bar. Mr. Levine was named one of the "100 Most Influential" lawyers in California. He chairs the Advisory Board of the Center on Public Diplomacy at USC's Annenberg School, is a member of the Advisory Board of the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California (Berkeley) and a Director of the Pacific Council on International Policy. He has served as U.S. Chair of the U.S.-Israel-Palestinian "Anti-Incitement" committee established by the Wye Plantation peace agreement, as a Presidential appointee to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, as a U.S. government appointee to the U.S.-Israel Science and Technology Advisory Commission, as President of the American Friends of the (Yitzhak) Rabin Center in Israel, and as Board Chair of the Los Angeles Police Foundation. Mr. Levine's Congressional committee assignments included the Committee on Foreign Affairs and its subcommittees on International Economic Policy and Trade, Europe and the Middle East, and Asia; the Committee on the Judiciary and its subcommittee on Intellectual Property; and the Committee on the Interior and Insular Affairs. Mr. Levine was especially engaged in U.S. foreign policy involving international trade and Middle East policy. He served as Chair of the House Task Force on Exports. He also served as co-chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and chair of the Democratic Caucus Task Force on Latin America. Mr. Levine founded and co-chaired Rebuild America, an educational foundation to improve American competitiveness by increasing support for high-technology industries, improving education and rebuilding infrastructure. Between 1993 and 1997, Mr. Levine served, at the request of Vice President Gore, as co-president of Builders for Peace, the private sector effort to assist the Middle East peace process. In the California Assembly. Levine was chair of the Energy subcommittee and author of California's Conservation Tax Credit legislation and California's Solar Rights Act. Levine is player-manager of the Hollywood Stars adult baseball team (established 1971). Mr. Levine received his law degree cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1969, a master's degree in public affairs from Princeton University in 1966, and a bachelor's degree cum laude from the University of California at Berkeley in 1964. Mr. Levine is married to journalist Connie Bruck, a staff writer for The New Yorker magazine. They have four children, Adam Levine, Jake Levine, Cara Levine and Ari Schlossberg.

In order to complete the process as quickly as possible, there are several steps that must be taken, many of which require visiting City Hall. If you require parking during these procedures, please call Cary Gross in my Office at (213) 978-0621 to make arrangements for you. To begin the reappointment process, please review, sign and return the enclosed Remuneration Form, Undated Separation Forms, Background Check Release and Information Sheet within one week of receiving this letter. These documents are necessary to ensuring the most efficient, open and accountable City government possible. Under separate cover you will be receiving a packet from the City Ethics Commission containing information about the City's conflict of interest laws and a copy of the State Form 700/Statement of Economic Interests. You are required to complete and return this form within 21 days of your nomination to the City Ethics Commission, 200 North Spring Street, City Hall, 24th Floor, Los Angeles, California 90012. Any inquiries regarding this form should be directed to Shannon Prior at the Ethics Commission at (213) 978-1960. As part of the City Council confirmation process, you will need to meet with Mike Bonin, your Councilmember, and Councilmember Felipe Fuentes, the Chair of the Energy and Environment Committee, to answer any questions they may have.
