Sewing Note: Seam allowances are 1 4 (.64cm) unless otherwise noted. Sew pieces right sides together. 1. Sew two 2 1 2 x 8 1 2 (6.35cm x 21.59cm) strips of Fabric A together so red triangle points meet exactly. When pressed open, there will be red triangles and white diamonds (Fig. 1). Make a total of (10) sashing blocks. Fig. 1 = Make 10 Quilt Top Assembly Note: Pay close attention to the orientation of the blocks and sashings during assembly. 2. Lay out the rows as shown in Figure 2 on page 5. Sew the pieces together within each row. 3. Cut (2) 2 ½ x 24 1 2 (6.35cm x 62.23cm) Fabric D strips. Sew (1) 2 1 2 (6.35cm) Fabric A square to each end of both strips. 4. Sew each remaining 2 ½ x WOF (6.35cm x WOF) Fabric D strip to a leftover piece from Step 3, matching the design as close as possible. Cut (2) 2 1 2 x 48 1 2 (6.35cm x 123.19cm) strips. 5. Sew (1) 2 ½ x 48 1 2 (6.35cm x 123.19cm) Fabric D strip to each side of the pieced unit. 6. Sew (1) strip from Step 3 to the top and the other to the bottom, matching adjacent seams. 7. Sew together the (3) 5 1 2 x WOF (13.97cm x WOF) Fabric E strips, matching the pattern. Cut (2) 5 ½ x 52 1 2 (13.97cm x 133.35cm) strips. 8. Sew (1) 5 1 2 x 52 ½ (13.97cm x 133.5cm) Fabric E strip to each side of the quilt top. 9. Cut each 2 1 2 x WOF (6.35cm x WOF) Fabric E strip to 38 1 2 (97.79cm). Sew (1) strip to the top and the other to the bottom of the quilt top. 10. Sew the (3) 1 1 2 x WOF (3.81cm x WOF) Fabric A strips together end to end. Cut (2) 1 ½ x 56 1 2 (3.81cm x 143.51cm) strips. Sew (1) strip each side of quilt top. 11. Sew (3) 2 1 2 x WOF (6.35cm x WOF) Fabric B strips together end to end, matching the pattern. Cut (2) 2 ½ x 56 1 2 (6.35cm x 143.51cm) strips. Sew (1) strip to each side of quilt top. 12. Piece together the (2) remaining Fabric B strips and the leftovers from Step 11, matching the patterns. Cut (2) 2 ½ x 44 1 2 (6.35cm x 113.03cm) strips. Sew (1) 2 1 2 (6.35cm) Fabric A square to each end of both strips. 13. Sew (1) pieced Fabric B strip to the top and the other to the bottom of the quilt top, matching adjacent seams. Finishing 14. Layer the backing (wrong side up), batting, and quilt top (right side up). Baste the layers together and quilt as desired. Trim excess batting and backing even with the top after quilting is completed. 16. Leaving an 8 (20.32cm) tail of binding, sew binding to top of quilt through all layers matching all raw edges. Miter corners. Stop approximately 12 (30.48cm) from where you started. Lay both loose ends of binding flat along quilt edge. Where these two loose ends meet, fold them back on themselves and press to form a crease. Using this crease as your stitching line, sew the two open ends of the binding together right sides together. Trim seam to 1 4 (.64cm) and press open. Finish sewing binding to quilt. 17. Turn the binding to the back of quilt and hand-stitch in place. 4 of 5
