Stephanie and Judy s August one-day classes were so much fun! Quail Creek Fine Arts Painting Club September 2018 NEXT MEETING: MONDAY SEPTEMBER 17, 1PM! Coffee, tea, cocoa provided. Bring your latest work for Show & Tell!

ARTIST OF THE MONTH Cindy Haase The above image is of "Days of the 80" 16 x 16" mixed media on canvas. It is one of my series based on a birds eye perspective of the topography of the midwest rural spaces and places. My art education has been self-directed studying with some of the best in the medium of oil, pastel and colored pencil. I began my oil painting journey in the late '90's with Debra Joy Groesser, plein air painter and president/ceo of the American Impressionist Society. My most recent study has been with Dennis Perrin learning to paint florals. From 2009 to 2011 I studied in Denver, CO, under Deborah Bays, master pastelist in atmospheric realism. It was under her guide I learned how to create form with light and shadow (chiarascuro) and create drama in still life compositions. In 2016 I attended a workshop with Debora L. Stewart who opened the world of pastel abstract (pure and combined with realistic elements) for me. I am currently studying abstract and intuitive painting in mixed media with Nancy Hillis. My inspirations in abstract painting are Brian Rutenberg and Arlene Richman. My work has been shown across the country, most notably in Santa Fe with the International Guild of Realism; in Ormond Beach, FL, with the Colored Pencil Society; and in Park City, UT, with the American Impressionist Society. One of my colored pencil pieces was selected for publication in the Strokes of Genius 8 - Expressive Textures. My abstract work was selected for an Honorable Mention in the Pastel Journal's Pastel 100 Competition 2017 and will appear in the April 2018 issue of Pastel Journal. I am a signature member of Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) as well as a

member of the Arizona Phoenix Chapter of CPSA, an associate member of American Impressionist Society (AIS), a member of the Tubac Center of the Arts, and the Quail Creek Fine Art Painting Club. I served on the executive governing board of CPSA from 2006 to 2016 as membership director, president and marketing director. My current work consists of small oil paintings of fruits and vegetables which I sell online through Etsy and Daily Paintworks. Exhibition and competition work is my exploration into abstracts both in pastel, acrylic and mixed media. I look forward to more teaching opportunities in my new home here in AZ. I am scheduled to teach "Expressive Pastels" at the Tubac School of Fine Art beginning in October. I also have a workshop scheduled for September 14th for our Quail Creek art group. As fall and winter activities start up for the Tucson Pastel Society, I will be joining their group. PAINTING FRUITS IN PASTEL OR OIL with Cindy Haase Technique: Working Dark to Light to Create Small Paintings of Fruit Date: September 14, 2018, 9a 4p with a 45 minute lunch break Cost: $25 This is a workshop for those familiar with the medium selected for the workshop, either soft pastel or oil. Participants will complete 2 small paintings, one of a pear and one of a cherry. If you'd like to bring a real pear and/or a cherry, please feel free, but not necessary. You'll learn about lighting and set up as well as starting with a sketch depicting lights and shadows. We will also talk about strokes and edges. After registering for the class you will be sent a materials list. Please email Cynthia (Cindy) Haase at cynhaas@aol.com to register. Questions? Call Cindy at 303-601- 8330.
