Cove and ceiling roses A stylish finish to any room

Cove Gyproc coving is the first choice when it comes to adding value to a home. Traditional paper-faced plaster cove complements any room in any style of home. These high quality coves come in classic C or sleek S shape profiles, in 100mm profile for smaller rooms or 127mm and 135mm profiles for larger rooms or areas with higher ceilings. Why choose paper-faced plaster cove? Easy to cut and joint for corners Less liable to handling damage than decorative cove Hides cracks between wall and ceiling edges 2

Cove accessories Gyproc Cove Adhesive Gypsum-based powder adhesive specifically formulated for fixing and filling mitred joints of paper-faced cove Available in: 5kg and 12.5kg bags Cove Mitre Box For use with 100mm and 127mm cove Cove Mitre Simple metal guide for cutting mitre angles Artex Easifix Multi-Purpose Adhesive Ready mixed adhesive formulated for fixing Artex ceiling roses Available in: 1, 2.5 or 5 litre tubs 5

Installation guide Cutting and fixing cove Preparation Make sure backgrounds are sound, clean and dry with all traces of wallpaper, loose or flaking paint, and paste removed Draw guidelines along the wall and ceiling to correspond with the edges of the coving. Score and brush plastered or painted areas in contact with the cove edge to give good key for the adhesive Cutting Gyproc cove should be handled with care to reduce the risk of damage Measure and cut the cove to size using a saw and Gyproc Mitre Box, to ensure correct angles for perfect corner joints Keep the cove at the correct angle in the box, and support free end using a piece of wood the same thickness as the base of the mitre box. Lightly sandpaper cut edges for a neater finish 6

Installation guide Fixing Start from the most visible corner and work around room, applying a minimum 6mm of Gyproc Cove Adhesive or Artex Easifix Multi-Purpose Adhesive evenly along full length of surfaces of plaster cove in contact with the wall and ceiling Gently press coving into position until adhesive begins to squeeze out remove excess adhesive to use as filler for corners Support coving temporarily until adhesive sets using small nails lightly tapped into the wall and ceiling Wipe along the wall and ceiling edges with a moist sponge or brush to remove any excess material Decoration and maintenance Gyproc cove can be painted to suit any interior scheme. Refer to individual paint manufacturer s guidelines for product use Fixing ceiling roses Preparation Always consult a qualified electrician if undertaking any work involving the removal or installation of electrical light fittings Locate the joist to which the ceiling rose is to be fixed and draw a pencil line along the centre of the joist. Position and mark the edges of the rose where the joist line crosses Draw a pencil line across the face of the ceiling rose to join the two marks. Mark the best position for fixing screws (according to the pattern) then drill and countersink two holes Site the rose and mark the hole positions on the ceiling. Drill pilot holes through the ceiling into the joist (avoiding electrical cables and pipework) Apply Artex Easifix Multi-Purpose Adhesive to the back of the ceiling rose. Place the adhesive evenly around the edge with four dabs in the middle avoiding the centre to allow for any cables Position the ceiling rose, locate the screw holes and fasten half way. Gently push the ceiling rose to ensure good adhesion. To finish, tighten the screws, cleaning off any surplus adhesive. In-fill counter sunk screws using excess adhesive 7

Installation guide Stop ends and non-standard angles Stop ends If you need to stop cove at openings, cut and fit length of cove with external mitre to meet the opening. Then cut corresponding mitre from a short surplus length of cove and cut off square to leave a wedge shape that fits perfectly to form a mitred stop end Creating mitres for non-standard angles (projection method) Draw lines on ceiling to correspond with outer edge of cove and extend so that they intersect at corner Position a suitably sized section of cove into the corner and mark the position of the corner (where walls meet) on the wall edge and where above lines intersect on ceiling edge then simply cut the cove along a line drawn between the two marks Finishing Fill all gaps and joints with excess adhesive and allow to dry thoroughly before applying normal decorative finishes Gyproc cove is suitable for most types of decorative paint finish refer to individual paint manufacturer s guidelines for product use 8
