Williamsburg Spinners & Weavers Guild Minutes September 18, 2017 James City County Recreation Center President Linda A called the meeting to order at 10:05. Motion was made and seconded to accept the August 2017 minutes. We had one visitor, Ginger Flynn. Correspondence: Fall Fiber Festival is October 7 th & 8 th. They are in need of volunteers to help in the activities tent and to watch the entries table. Friday is the deadline for entries. It s time to rejoin Handweavers Guild of America. A motion was made to join for 2 years. Seconded. They send us their magazine and we would be eligible to apply for scholarships. Treasurer s report: We have $3265.87 in bank. Membership: One new member, Ann Hurt. Web site: Our guild pictures can now be viewed as sliders. A potted plant was given to Debbie K for hosting Patsy Zawistoski all weekend. Patsy was our workshop teacher. The Spinning /Blending workshop was a great 2 day success. First we tuned up our wheels and counted ratios. Then came carding, blending and spinning many different types of fiber. On the second day we took a great pile of different colors and fibers to blend on the drum carders. In the afternoon we broke up into twos to drum card our individual bag of fibers of different types. Each team made 12 batts. Then we each took one batt from the different teams. They turned out very well and everyone went home with lots of fiber to spin. Our program on Monday at meeting was also by Patsy. She displayed 3 tables of her spinning projects from years of work. She explained what fibers were in each project and how they were spun. They were beautiful and beautifully done. The October meeting will be a field trip to Dewitt-Wallace Museum for a guided textile tour. Each member must buy their own ticket which is about $12.00. After a short meeting at JCC rec Center, we will go to the museum. There will be no snacks on that day. Museum tour is at 11:30. Kathy is unable to have the bash in October. There will not be one. Nominating Committee: Kathy will be treasurer and Claudia will be secretary. We need president & vice-president. This will be continued. Our time at the Williamsburg Farmers market will be October 28 th. Sandy has given the towel labels to Marsha if they are needed. Snacks were provided by Natalie and Kathy.
