Fabric B (2861-22 Small Polka Dot-Pink), cut: (2) 2 ½ x 36 ½ strips (2) 2 ½ x 26 ½ strips (7) 1 ½ x WOF strips, sew the strips together and cut (2) 1 ½ x 70 ½ strips and (2) 1 ½ x 57 ½ strips. Sub-cut into (8) 5 ½ squares Backing (2860-11 Large Polka Dot-Blue), cut: (2) 65 x WOF strips. Sewing Sew using a ¼ seam allowance with right sides together (RST) unless otherwise indicated. Always press towards the darker fabric while assembling, unless otherwise noted by the arrows. Block Assembly 1. Sew (1) 2 ½ x 36 ½ Fabric B strip to each side of the 22 ½ x 36 ½ Fabric A strip. Sew (1) 2 ½ x 26 ½ Fabric B strip to the top and to the bottom of the Fabric A strip to make the center block (Fig. 1). 2. Sew (1) 8 ½ x 40 ½ Fabric C strip to each side of the center block. Sew (1) 8 ½ x 42 ½ Fabric C strip to the top and to the bottom of the center block (Fig. 2). Fig. 1 Fig. 2 3. Following the manufacturer s instructions, trace eight left handle cups and interiors, eight right handle cups and interiors, sixteen flowers and center from templates on paper side of fusible web. Roughly cut out each shape about 1/8 outside the drawn lines. 4. Press each shape onto the wrong side of the fabrics as listed on the templates. Cut out each shape on the drawn lines. Remove paper backing.
STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 4 of 8 5. Arrange and press the (16) cups, (16) interior cups, (16) flowers and (16) flower centers onto the Fabric C borders (Fig. 3). 6. Finish the raw edges of each shape with a decorative stitch such as a buttonhole or satin stitch to make the quilt top. Fig. 3 Quilt Top Assembly 7. Sew (1) 2 x 56 ½ Fabric I strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew (1) 2 ½ x 45 ½ Fabric I strip to the top and to the bottom of the quilt top (Fig. 4). Fig. 4
STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 5 of 8 8. Sew (12) assorted 5 ½ squares together to make (1) side border. Repeat to make a second side border. Sew the borders to each side of the quilt top (Fig. 5). 9. Sew (11) assorted 5 ½ squares together to make the top border. Repeat to the bottom border. Sew the borders to the top and bottom of the quilt top (Fig. 6). Fig. 5 Fig. 6
STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 6 of 8 10. Sew (1) 1 ½ x 70 ½ Fabric B strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew (1) 1 ½ x 57 ½ Fabric B strip to the top and to the bottom of the quilt top (Fig. 7). Fig. 7 Layering, Quilting and Finishing 11. Sew the (2) 65 x WOF strips together and trim to make (1) 65 x 80 backing piece. 12. Press the quilt top and backing well. Layer backing (wrong side up), batting, pressed quilt top (right side up) and baste. Quilt as desired and trim excess batting and backing when quilting is complete. Binding 13. Cut the ends of the (7) Fabric C binding strips at a 45-degree angle and sew end to end to make one continuous piece of binding. Fold in half lengthwise and press wrong sides together. 14. Sew the binding to the front of the quilt, raw edges together. Turn the folded edge to the back, and hand stitch in place. 2014 Studio e Fabrics
