CUSTOM INTEGRATED ASSEMBLIES Cougar offers full first-level integration capabilities, providing not just performance components but also full subsystem solutions to help reduce program schedule and cost. Drawing on our expanding breadth of components, Cougar delivers customer-specified subsystems of analog and mixed analog-digital design, including hybrid, MMIC, and mixed hybrid-mmic configurations. Designed to meet military or space applications, some typical subsystems Cougar delivers include I/Q demodulators, coupled detector assemblies, switched amplifier detector assemblies, and dual-band VCOs. Our experienced component and subsystem engineering staffs work closely with the customer s design team. We can help identify and develop the correct integrated subassembly to complete the system requirements and reduce component interface difficulties. Following are several examples of our integrated subassemblies. X Band Limiting Amplifier Replacing an older design, Cougar reduced component count and increased overall reliability in this X-band limiting amplifier. The design covers 9.0 to 10.0 GHz and provides dynamic range over inputs from 14.0 to 4.0 dbm, and output of +28.5 dbm. The output power variation versus frequency and temperature ( 46 to 72 C) is ~±0.3 db and typical rise and fall times are ~5 nanoseconds. The amplifier operates from a 400 Hz, 115 Vac power source. Cougar can also provide limiting amplifiers covering broader frequency ranges, dynamic ranges, and output powers in excess of 1 watt. 9 to 10 GHz Frequency +28.5 dbm Output Power ±0.3 Output Power Change Vs. Frequency and Temperature (-46 to 72 C) Operates off 400 Hz 115 VAC Supply Low Noise Dual Band VCO This custom oscillator subassembly consists of two low noise oscillators covering 1.5 to 2.5 GHz, a power combiner, a standard Cougar amplifier, and a lowpass microstrip filter. Cougar designed both oscillators for low phase noise and linear tuning. The output frequency bands are switched using standard TTL control. IQ Demodulator Cougar s IQ Demodulators are fully space-qualified designs providing stringent phase and amplitude matching, and superior output third order intercept performance. To meet high LO and IF rejection requirements Cougar uses a diplexer at the I and Q ports. All components and processing fully meet MIL- PRF-38534, Class K and MIL-DTL-28837. Cougar can provide performance to meet most receiver system requirements, including single or moving LO frequencies and tight phase and amplitude matching. Customers can specify our designs for space, military, or commercial applications. Switched Limiting Amp with Detected Output Limiting amplifier sets dynamic range from 10.0 to 5.0 dbm input to 2.0 dbm output. TTL controlled, fast switching and high isolation 10 db On-to- Off, and includes internal filtering for improved harmonic performance. Analog detector monitored output, or dual RF outputs. Operates at 3.6 GHz -8 to -3 dbm Input Power to +2 to +5 dbm Output Power Amplitude and Phase Matched Dual Outputs (±0./2 db, ±1 ) TTL Compatible, 70 db On-to-Off Ratio, 50 ηs Response Integrated RF Switch Switch Amp One of many potential designs, Cougar s switched amplifier covers 100 to 2000 MHz, providing 18 db gain, phase matched to within ±1.0 degree. The primary RF input and a secondary calibration signal input are switched, then amplified, and split to two outputs. Gain balance between any of the two outputs is ± 0.5 db. Output power at 1 db compression is +14 dbm and input/output VSWR is 2.0:1 maximum. 2006/2007 408-522-3838 Fax: 408-522-3839 Check for updates: www.teledyne-cougar.com 19

Ku Band Gain Control Amplifier Expanding Cougar's existing line of high frequency amplifiers, Cougar offers microwave gain controllable amplifiers designed and biased for critical performance applications. One example covers 10-13 GHz, offers 45 db unattenuated small signal gain with 15 db attenuation range. Typical gain flatness is ±0.5 db, +35 dbm third order intercept point, +22 dbm minimum 1-dB gain compression, and 3.5 db unattenuated noise figure 4.5 db at full attenuation. This is only one of a series of microwave controllable amplifiers currently in production. 10 to 13 GHz Frequency Band 45 db Unattenuated Gain ± 0.5 db Gain Flatness 3.5 db Noise Figure (at unattenuated setting, 4.5 db full attenuation) 15 db Attenuation Range +22 dbm Output Power at 1dB Compression +35 dbm Third Order Intercept Point Voltage Controlled Oscillator Assembly with Heater Cougar has designed a Voltage Controlled Oscillator to replace an existing application. The oscillator covers the 520 to 560 MHz frequency range. The oscillator provides +10 to +13 dbm output power. The oscillator has internal heaters designed to maintain the oscillator assembly at constant temperature. The unit operates over the 0 to 60 C temperature range with ~200 KHz frequency variation due to temperature variation. 520 to 560 MHz Frequency Output <±0.2 MHz Frequency Drift (0 to 60 C, internal heater to stabilize Frequency Output) +10 to +13 dbm Output Power Settles to within 0.5 MHz in less than 25 0Sec. X Band Coupler with Dual Output Threshold Detector The X Band coupler with dual output has an input power range of either 5 to +10 dbm, or +5 to +20 dbm. Covering 8.0 to 9.5 GHz, insertion loss is less than 1.0 db and VSWR is 1.5:1. The coupler/detector has two external resistors providing independently settable threshold TTL outputs. The power flatness is ~0.4 db and hysteresis is 0.1 db. Cougar can provide this function in other frequency ranges and input power ranges. 8 to 10 GHz Operational Frequency <1.0 db Insertion Loss Two Independently Settable (external resistor) Threshold Detector Outputs High Speed Threshold Detector Response (<80 ηsec) 20 408-522-3838 Fax: 408-522-3839 Check for updates: www.teledyne-cougar.com 2006/2007

Each independent channel used dedicated RF Input/Output and DC bias connections. Cougar tailored each channel s RF performance differently to meet the application requirements. Cougar manufactured and screened all components per MIL-PRF-38534, Class K. Additionally, to meet mission requirements Cougar tested the top assembly for RF and DC parameters during MIL-STD-202 thermal cycling and random vibration environments. This effort required disciplined development, manufacturing and program management efforts to meet challenging mechanical and RF engineering requirements. VHF Band 1.0 Watt Amplifier with RF Bypass Cougar has developed a 35 to 350 MHz custom amplifier with 1 watt output power. The amplifier has 29 db gain with 3 db noise figure. The amplifier assembly has a RF switch so that the RF input can be connected directly to the output bypassing the amplifier. The amplifier goes into the bypass state when the DC bias is removed from the switch. This unit is one of a series of amplifiers that covers the 1 MHz to 2100 MHz with similar operation. 35 to 530 MHz 30 db Gain 3 db Noise Figure 1 Watt Output Power Amplifier/Bypass Selectable Power Off Bypass Operation Gain and Phase matched (Unit-to-Unit) 2006/2007 408-522-3838 Fax: 408-522-3839 Check for updates: www.teledyne-cougar.com 21

3072 MHz Limiting Amplifier The CCM3072 is single input three output limiting amplifier operating at 3072 MHz. The input power range is from -10 to 0 dbm with an output at +7 dbm and two at +1 dbm. The output power change due input power range, temperature (-20 to 85 C) and voltage variation is ~ +/-0.8 db. Input and output VSWR are all <1.2:1. Incorporated into the design is a narrow band pass filter between the amplifiers and power splitter to reject spurious input signals and reduce harmonic outputs. This limiting amplifier is being built for stringent space applications. 2 to 18 GHz Amplitude and Phase Matched 6 Channel Downconverter The CCM18001 is a six (6) channel 2 to 18 GHz (RF and LO) Downconverter that operates at an IF frequency of ~960 MHz with 25 db of RF to IF gain and bandwidth of ~500 MHz. The CCM18001 operates off a single LO input at -6 dbm input power. To provide the LO drive to the mixers, the LO signal is conditioned by being amplified, power split and then individually amplified again for each of the six channels. The six channels are identical in their function. Integrated into each of the six channels is a range extension switch that adds 20 db of range by inserting 20 db of attenuation. The six 2.0 to 18.0 GHz switches are controlled by a single TTL input. IF chain has amplification, phase adjustment, temperature compensation and a lumped element Band Pass Filter (with equalizer). Noise figure is ~13.5 db with the output IP3 of ~25 dbm. Channel to amplitude match is ~1.0 db and the channel to channel phase match is <20. The downconverter is two sided hermetically sealed hybrid designed for rugged military applications. All of the component parts are designed and manufactured by Teledyne Cougar. 17 to 19 GHz QPSK Modulator The CCM19001 is a Differential Drive Digital QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) modulator operating across the 17.0 to 19.0 GHz frequency range. The modulator utilizes differential drive digital inputs (180º apart) to drive both of the bi-phase modulators (mixers) integrated into the assembly. The modulator is a combination of a matched pair bi-phase modulators, which are in quadrature (90º) to each other. It is modulated by switching polarities of the DC voltage controls in 4 different logic states ( 0,0, 0,1, 1,0 & 1,1 ) for 4 phase states. The QPSK modulator provides constant amplitude, 90º vector: 0 (ref.), 90º, 180º, 270º and operates across the -55º to 85º C temperature range. 22 408-522-3838 Fax: 408-522-3839 Check for updates: www.teledyne-cougar.com 2006/2007

CCM1095 and CCM2096-3 to 5 Watt Power Amplifiers The CCM1095 and CCM2096 are power amplifier that use current efficient Silicon Carbide output semi-conductors to achieve +35 to +38 dbm output power. An internal sequencing circuit is included to provide for safe operation of the output power device. The CCM1095 can be adjusted to operate at voltages from +28 to +42 volts. The bias current can be adjusted to operate at any of the voltages mentioned from 250 to 600 ma. The voltages used and current settings are a function of the output power requirements. The CCM1095 provides +37 dbm with 36 volts and 500 ma of current. The CCM2096 delivers +36 dbm output power with 36 volts and 500 ma on the output stage. The driver stage is operated with +15 volts and draws 450 ma. The housing shown includes the RF amplifier and the voltage sequencer.
