1 Treasure Coast Woodturners 7/10/2013 An Affiliate Chapter of the American Association of Woodturners In this issue: Newsletter of the Treasure Coast Woodturning Guild June 2013 Letter from the President Presidents Letter Meeting Minutes June 2013 Members Gallery Future Events Officers/Contact People We meet the 3rd Tuesday of every month at IRSC Tech Campus at Tedder Rd, Ft Pierce Next meeting, Tuesday July 19 Hi everyone! Well the national conference is over and we are all home after being inspired by all the great wood stuff we saw over there. I am sorry I did not get to spend more time with those of you that I saw over there but the job I volunteered for was very demanding and I spent more time working than I did socializing. I guess everyone that I encountered only saw me on the run to one place or another putting out fires almost like my old job. I did get to a few special demos and the instant gallery and vendor area for a look see, in fact I told most everyone to tackle me and not let me in the vendor area after Saturday or I wouldn't have gas money to get home. I did attend the critique of the 24 pieces taken from the instant gallery to be critiqued by three judges, a collector, a gallery owner. and an artist. My fluted and twisted rosewood vase was selected and boy did I learn a lot about what is considered relevant in today's market. My piece was probably the largest of the 24 selected so you all with small lathes don't underestimate the potential of creating beautiful small pieces with attention to detail. I took some photos of things I thought interesting and I am sure some of you did the same, perhaps we could put them together for others to see. Two of our members purchased new lathes and dragged them home from the Symposium a very good deal but I don't think you can do it form next years Symposium since it is in Phoenix AZ, Oh well maybe the next time it comes to the South East it would be worthwhile. I don't know what to have as a video this meeting but I am sure Thom or Read will come up with something. We will be meeting at my shop on July 20th at 9 A.M. we will demo something and get rid of some wood and get a chance to talk about the Symposium. I will see you all on Tuesday July 16 at the regular meeting time and place. It may get windy this week so keep an eye out for some good wood. Keep dry and let the chips fall where they may, Jack
