We give you the whole kit and kaboodle, literally. From advice and tips to planning tools and hardware. We ve got everything you need to not just get the job done, but to make the end result everything you hoped it would be and more. Let s go! tested, tested & re-tested Kaboodle kitchen products are put through a number of tests to ensure that they perform in a demanding kitchen environment. We use select components in construction to ensure that our cabinets are durable, safe and most importantly, strong. 16 measuring your space So now that you re inspired after looking through our latest kitchen designs, it s time to start planning your own. The first step is understanding the space you have to work with so you know how much you can fit in. Start by measuring your kitchen accurately, remembering to measure and mark: a b The height of the room from the floor to the ceiling/bulkhead The length and width of the room wall to wall and/or wall to doorways (measure to the outside of the architrave) f b a d c d The height from the floor to any windows to ensure that cabinets and benchtops fit The location of any old or new light switches or power points c e b c b e The location of existing service points such as plumbing and electricity or any new points f Any other permanent fixtures such as balustrades or pillars etc. top planning tips do Think about what you like/dislike in your current kitchen. Think about what your kitchen will be used for (e.g. cooking and food preparation or entertaining). Consider how many people will be utilising the kitchen. For traffic areas and island benchtops we recommend you allow 1200mm from the benchtop on the island to the opposite cabinet/appliance. Ensure the location of the sink bowl is centred over a suitable size cabinet. Consult your manufacturers specifications for appliances prior to installing your kitchen. Enjoy your new kitchen! don t Position cooking appliances under windows or near inward opening doors (especially gas units). Place your fridge and cooking appliances next to one another. Attempt to undertake electrical or plumbing work yourself - all electrical and plumbing work must be carried out by a licensed electrician or plumber. Position your rangehood any closer than from the top of your hob (stove). Forget your end panels - these are needed on either side of appliance cabinets and to cover the exposed side of cabinet runs. Forget to leave a minimum of 300mm clearance on either side of your cooktop to any pantries or panels. 16

17 choose your layout Once you know how much space you have to work with, you then need to choose your layout. It may be based on the kitchen you re replacing or it may be a totally new design. Just remember to allow enough space in-between benchtops to allow for opening cabinet doors and traffic in the kitchen. Wherever possible, try to incorporate the working triangle. U-shape kitchen The U-shape is most commonly suited to larger kitchen spaces and is the perfect layout for families who spend lots of time in the kitchen. L-shape kitchen The L-shape kitchen suits open plan living areas, smaller areas and long rooms. It also enables you to move freely between the various areas within the kitchen and gives you great benchtop working space. L-shape island kitchen An island in this format is most suited to larger, more spacious kitchens. Additional cabinets and benchtop work space also makes this kitchen family friendly and an entertainers paradise. working triangle straight line kitchen The straight line kitchen is ideal for small and narrow kitchen areas, but can also comfortably accommodate larger kitchens. A galley kitchen is a modern and contemporary kitchen design and the choice of many chefs. This is the distance between your cooktop, fridge and sink. 31 why cut and butt? The revolutionary cut and butt joining system means anyone can join their benchtops without the need for experienced trades people, which in turn will save you time and money. These benchtops are supplied with a special, colour matched edging that can be cut, heat removed and joined giving you a perfect finish every time! It s as simple as how to cut and butt? Remove the edging from the area that you will be joining using a heat gun and scraper. Router out the holes (min hole diameter 35mm) for the benchtop joiners underneath the benchtop. Connect the 2 benchtops together and tighten, remembering to use PVA glue for a water resistant join. 31
