4 BOOST YOUR METAL REMOVAL IN HEAVY DUTY FACE MILLING OPERATIONS STRENGTH AND DURABILITY GIVE THE DOUBLE QUATTROMILL TM 22 METAL-REMOVAL PROWESS Take full advantage of your machine tool s milling power for increased productivity with Seco s new Double Quattromill TM 22 face mill cutter for roughing and semi finishing. Achieve large depth-of-cut capability and do so cost-effectively with eight multi-edge insert cutting edges. Push even the most capable machine tools to their power consumption limitations, taking depths-of-cut up to 9 mm (0.35") with the 45 lead angle version of the Double Quattromill TM 22 and as deep as 11 mm (0.43") with the 68 cutter version. Avoid the cutting force shortcomings of standard tangentialtype face mills thanks to the specially developed and extremely free-cutting geometries of the Double Quattromill TM 22 s doublesided inserts. Unlike other doublesided inserts, the Double Quattromill TM 22 inserts actually lower cutting forces/ machine power consumption and thus ensure workpiece stability. The inserts feature high-axial rake angles that not only make them free cutting but also give them longer tool life and more versatility for a wider range of part materials including steel and cast iron as well as 15-5 stainless steel and superalloy materials such as titanium and Inconel. The 45 Double Quattromill TM 22 lead angle provides a combination of lower cutting forces, less power consumption, higher feed rates and exceptional chip thinning. While on the other hand, the 68 is best when having to mill close to a wall or part fixture. Double Quattromill TM 22 inserts also feature wiper flats, and the 45 lead angle types come in three geometries. These include a highly sharp geometry for stainless steels, titaniums and other sticky materials; a universal type for steels to cast irons and superalloys; and one for steels, in particular tool steels from P6 to P11, and cast iron. Enhanced chip control and evacuation as well as longer maintained tool surface appearance and durability result from new Seco surface texture technology applied to Double Quattromill TM 22 cutter body flute surfaces. For additional cost effectiveness, Double Quattromill TM 22 cutter bodies come in either fixed pocket or cassette versions for larger diameters from 200 mm up to 315 mm (7.87" to 12.40"). 4

With the WL wiper insert, feed rates can be increased by as much as 100% while maintaining surface finish quality. The WS wiper can reduce cutting forces by as much as 15% to improve machining in poor stability conditions. Especially when machining from a hard part surface into a soft one, Seco s new chipbreakers allow for deeper depths of cut and higher feed rates as compared with existing designs. The laser-generated flowing-radii chipbreakers also apply to a much wider range of applications in some instances where they never could prior. Experience less insert chipping with the new chipbreakers because laser etching is far superior to grinding when it comes to generating smooth insert walls and fewer sharp corners. 16 BOOST YOUR HEAVY TURNING OPERATIONS ENSURE MAXIMUM CHIP CONTROL WITH NEW CHIPBREAKERS IN SECO S RCMX Seco continuously refines its heavy turning solutions for railway wheel machining, most recently through the introduction of the new -R3 and -RR93 geometries within the RCMx range of inserts. These geometries effectively manage chips and achieve long tool life in extremely tough applications. The additions combine new chipbreakers with Seco s industry leading Duratomic grade technology. HELPFUL HINT Inserts with used-edge detection capabilities eliminate waste and save money. Replacing the -RR94 geometry, the -RR93 chipbreaker is designed to boost tool life, improve productivity, increase process reliability, enlarge the working area for effective chip control and improve surface finish. With the optimally positioned chipbreaker grooves, the new RCMx -R3 chipbreaker controls chips in even the most demanding finishing applications. These applications can involve depths of cut as shallow as 1.5 mm (0.06"), with high feed rates ranging from 0.6 mm/rev to 1.2 mm/rev and cutting speeds in the range of 90m/min. to 160 m/min. Selecting the correct cutting data from among these ranges is dependent on the material and machine conditions. 20 GET PRECISE THREADING PROFILES IN YOUR AEROSPACE APPLICATIONS SECO IS EXPANDING ITS RANGE OF FULL PROFILE THREADING INSERTS WITH UNJ AND MJ PROFILES Seco is adding a range of full profile threading inserts with the UNJ and MJ thread profiles. Inserts are available for both external applications and the corresponding internal applications. Inserts are now designed with an even tighter tolerance on the profiles, which generate high-precision threads in stainless steels and heat resistant nickel-based and titanium alloys. The tighter tolerances of the profiles increase the tolerances that can be held when threading, as well as increase the tool life of the inserts. The new inserts will boost process consistency and profile accuracy for manufacturers, which is especially valuable to those working in the aerospace segment. With these full profile inserts, Seco now offers a more complete range of threading inserts. Pair the new inserts with Seco holders featuring the company s Jetstream Tooling high-pressure, directed coolant technology to easily prevent those hazardous tangles of curly chips that can stall production. Gain the ability to guide/steer chips in a certain direction away from the cutting zone. This is possible because the holders deliver a concentrated high-pressure jet of coolant at high velocity straight to the optimum position close to the cutting edge. For titanium parts and those made from similar materials, Jetstream Tooling technology can actually break the tough threading chips to increase tool life. As a result of Seco s renowned innovation and quality, the Power Milling Chucks deliver greater application flexibility along with cost effectiveness and five micron runout accuracy at 3XD. Power Milling Chucks are available in diameter 20 mm (0.75") for direct clamping of plain cylindrical and Weldon shanks, and in diameter 32 mm (1.25") for direct clamping of plain cylindrical shanks.
