The other section connects by a hinge to the folding partitions and clips to the wall mounted section. Specify length (see Measuring Guide on p.22 ). 24 Measuring Guidelines All measurements for lead posts, panel sections and hinge heights are made by measuring from the bottom to the top of the metal portion of the leadpost or panel. Do not include sweeps, trolleys or track in the measurements. Measure to the nearest 1/8". MEASURING The general rule is "metal to metal" on panels and lead posts. Hinges are measured from the panels they attach to. 22

26 Cleaning and Sweep Maintenance Cleaning As needed, clean the panels with an all-purpose spray or aerosol cleaner. If you have any question about the suitability of a cleaner, clean a small part of a panel near the jamb first. Do not use lubricants on the track and rollers of the Cornell TranZform partition doors. Trimming the Bottom Sweep Building settling and difficult door operation can be remedied by trimming the bottom sweep. Extend the door to the fully closed position or have someone hyperextend the door to more fully straighten the bottom sweep. The straigher the sweep, the more easily it can be trimmed. SWEEP MAINTENANCE Use a utility knife with a sharp blade to trim the sweep. We recommend using a "pilot finger" technique to keep the sweep flat against the floor surface. The blade should touch the carpet or floor and remain straight and directly under the door. The cutting tail should be pulled in the opposite direction of the cut (as opposed to away from the door). This will keep the proper tension on the sweep as you cut. Open and close the door after trimming the sweep. The sweep should make light contact with the floor. Be aware that some floors may have minor level variations. Trim any exposed liner insulation that makes contact with the floor no higher than 1/4" above the floor. (See page 27.) Replacing the Bottom Sweep The sweep connects to the panel by threading the sweep bead through the sweep clip which is riveted to the inside of the panel. The sweep clip should be flush with the bottom of the panel to which it's attached. Sweep connections are made in the middle of a panel. Cut the sweep section from bottom to top at the outside hinge. The sweep must be long enough to overlap the other sweep by about a half panel length. Trim off the top of the sweep to the bead so that it is flush with the bottom of the hinge and panel. 24

27 Replacing the Bottom Sweep and Hinge Removal Replacing the Bottom Sweep (continued) Make sure the bottoms of the two sweeps you're connecting are flush. Use a sharp awl to make a pilot hole through both sweeps about 1/4" from the bottom of the panel and about 1/2" from the end of the connecting sweep. Connect with a black pop rivet and a washer in back. Then, if necessary, install another rivet at the same level as the first rivet. (For photographs of sweep connections, see p. 13) SWEEP AND HINGE Hinge Removal Bend the bottom sweep clip tab near the hinge with pliers to clear access for hinge removal. Grasp the end of the hinge. Pull it out of the panels until the metal hinge clips clear. (You may need to pull the bottom of the door toward you for enough clearance to remove the hinge.) With the hinge clips exposed, peel the hinge back several inches. Once the top and bottom hinges are clear from the panels, grasp the bottom of the hinge and pull it down until the entire hinge is removed. 25

28 Hinge Installation and Spring Clip Adjustment Hinge Installation To install the hinge, start at either the top or bottom of the panels and wedge first one side and then the other side of the hinge into the panel beads. Use a bead lubricant as needed. If pulling down (usually on taller doors and sometimes on shorter doors), get help to maintain hinge placement if necessary. You may need to tie a rope to the hinge end to help pull down from heights (bottom right photo). HINGE AND SPRING CLIP If pulling up (usually on shorter doors), use a tool (such as a hammer or mallet handle) to hold the hinge in place on the floor. While pulling up, make sure that the hinge remains in the panel beads. Whether pulling up or down, pull the hinge clips past the end of the panels and then carefully insert into the bead grooves. Move the panels to help settle the hinge clips flush with the ends of the panels. Spring Clip Adjustment Single stack doors have a strike post that is mounted to the wall jamb. Double stack doors have the striker built into the female lead post. This procedure applies to both latch receiver configurations. Remove enough of the strike seal to make it possible to remove the strike plate which is fastened by a single screw. Slide the strike plate out of the way to access the spring clip. Loosen the spring clip screws and move the spring clip either up or down to increase or decrease latch friction. Tighten screws. Reverse the actions to reassemble. (Replace the striker plate and fasten with screw. Pinch the strike seal into a "U" shape and re-insert into the grooves on the strike post/female lead post.) 26

29 Sound and Space Door Jambs, Insulation Liner Maintenance Jamb Most TranZform folding partitions have a two piece jamb that clips securely into place. The jamb connection on the folding partition can be removed from the jamb piece connected to the wall by carefully starting an opening at either the top or bottom of the jamb with a wide, flat screwdriver or similar tool. Once the separation is started, the jamb can be opened manually. JAMBS AND INSULATION The jamb is replaced by clipping the piece connected to the partition panels to the wall piece. Certain TranZform Space partitions have a jamb or jambs secured to the wall with screws. To access the securing screws, move the panels away from the jamb. Insulation Liner If you learn that the insulation blanket is dragging or making contact with the floor, inspect it to make sure that the insulation blanket is still secured to the insulation retaining pins attached to the panels. In order to inspect the insulation blanket, you will need to open at least one clipped jamb (see above). If the dragging is due to missing insulation retaining caps, re-secure the insulation and press on a replacement retaining cap. If the dragging is due to structural settling, trim the insulation blanket with scissors no more than 1/4" above the floor level. 27
