Found in extremely large trees like Mahogany / Sapeli, Bubinga, Moab and Macore, the quilted effect somewhat like the larger and exaggerated version of a pomello is also found in some species like Birch, Maple and is three dimensional in appearance. The necessity for labour intensive staining and colour matching gets eliminated in dyed veneers, as the choice of colours are predetermined. The pressure dyeing penetrates the entire veneer thickness, not just the surface, making it coloured throughout, presenting a vivid spectrum to the designer. It seems to have been an obsession of man to manipulate the coloring of wood far beyond the imagination of the Creator.
