2 PRODUCTION CYCLE Since it was founded in 1976, Fiborsin srl has concentrated on the extrusion and processing of plastic materials. In addition, the Company operates in the engineering sector and produces general mechanical parts for third parties. A total of 18 workers are employed in production (working two shifts of 7.5 hours). Recording the activities With the recent introduction of the activity recording system, integrated into its managerial software, Fiborsin is able to exercise direct control in real time over the production processes, collecting and monitoring data concerning the progress of production. The implementation of this system means that production progress reports can be automatically recorded through the simple workstations located directly in the production divisions of the factory. Furthermore, by using recording technology that optically reads bar codes, it is possible to track the exact progress of each individual phase of processing. This important system ensures greater accuracy in delivery times and better organisation of the orders, as well as attaining the established quality and quantity levels, leading to a reduction in costs.

3 Structural metalwork division. In this division, light to medium structural metalwork is carried out, with the article traced on sheet metal, then cut out using suitable machinery and bent. The cut and bent items are assembled by arc welding and, occasionally, with oxyacetylene welding, with the items deburred using sanders. Other structural metalwork carried out includes cut-to-order bars, welding, piercing, deburring and, if required, polishing the items. Equipment available in the division includes benders, pressure rollers, a crossbeam welder, saws, cut-off saws, welders, drills, shears, grinders, satin finishers, electric and pneumatic hand drills, screwdrivers and pneumatic tapping machines. The processing dimensions can reach a maximum of 6 m x 3 m with a thickness of material of 30 mm. Five workers are employed in the division. 5 Machine tools division. In this section, profiles and drawn items are produced through lathing andor milling, piercing and grinding. Milling, boring, piercing and tapping are used to transform the semifinished items (iron casting or semi-finished structural metalwork) into the finished product as ordered by the client. The division s machinery and equipment includes manual milling machines, manual and CNC lathes, CNC machining centres, mortisers, tapping machines, slotting machines, drills and grinders. Nine workers are employed in the division. 7 Frame assembly. Various assembly workstations are distributed within this division. The frame processing consists of assembling the machinery s metal structure. Items from other divisions are assembled and, occasionally, welded together. The frame is then finished and sent to the painting division. The assembly workstations are equipped with portable tools (pneumatic screwdrivers, pneumatic and electric drills, grinders, hammers, files and other manual equipment). A drill press and a bench press are also available and are used occasionally. Two workers are employed in the division. The process dimensions can reach a maximum of 6 m x 3 m with a thickness of material of 30 mm. 8 Painting division Items from the various divisions are polished, washed in degreasing tanks with water and surfactants, filled and then painted electrostatically in water spray booths. In suitable surrounding areas (a drying room and passivation room), the painted items are stored for varying lengths of time until they are completely dry. Two workers are employed in the painting division, one of which is also responsible for preparing and polishing the items, then washing and cleaning them. To collect urgent material from suppliers or for deliveries to clients, one person is designated as a driver, and uses a company-owned truck or motor vehicle. The employee also occasionally carries out basic checks on the operation of the vehicles (oil and water levels) and plans any maintenance to be carried out by external, specialised companies.
