We develop ideas and provide solutions tailored to the requirements of todays discerning customer, whether the product is a single piece of cabinetry, a complex architectural plan or sophisticated interior design. We strive to bridge the gap between creativity and engineering, through a considered application of materials, style and market knowledge. Our refined approach to the design process allows us to work within a range of budgets. Jan Hendzel is a trained engineer pattern-maker with 7 years experience. Educated at Central St Martins with a BA (Hons) in Product Design. He has a zeal for materials, design and manufacturing techniques. Oscar Hunt is a trained joiner and a passionate lighting designer. Educated at University of Brighton with a BA (Hons) in 3-D Design for Production. He is also interested in interactive furniture design involving an extensive range of media. As designer makers we welcome clients to visit the workshop by appointment, and see first hand the great care and craftsmanship that goes into making your furniture.

For Interiors 2010 at the NEC Birmingham, Hendzel and Hunt were asked to collaborate with the successful textile collective Puff and Flock. They approached U.K.

Visit us and the finished chair at Interiors 2010 at the NEC Birmingham. For Interiors 2010 at the NEC Birmingham, Hendzel and Hunt were asked to collaborate with the successful textile collective Puff and Flock. They approached U.K. based furniture manufacturer Ercol who have allowed the collaboration to use Ercol designs and textiles as the stimulus for the project. The above photos explain Hendzel and Hunts role in the design. The original Ercol butterfly chair has been copied in carbon fibre to produce a lightweight but rigid structure which is then wrapped tightly in Ercol s best selling fabric using patterns Jenny and Melissa from Puff and Flock have drawn. The prototype has been made by hand without the use of any machinery incorporating a unique and innovative process of lost wax casting to produce light weight hollow core radial components of the original design. Thermoset foam Airex has been used as the core for the seat and back and clamped into position after being heated in the studio oven. VISIT US! DESIGNERS INTERIORS STAND B61. HALL 2

3 PROJECTS: COLLABORATIONS CONTINUED ^^^THE ERCOL BUTTERFLY CHAIR//A COLLABORATION WITH PUFF AND FLOCK Pre cut paper patterns are taken from the original chair and copied onto 195 grm twill carbon fibre sheet. 2.2 layers of Carbon fibre and resin are wrapped around the Airex foam core, a thermoset foam. to produce the Seat and Back rests. 3.The pieces are left to Gel before the next layer is applied. 4.The finished carbon components with the original chair.

4 PROJECTS: COLLABORATIONS CONTINUED ^^^AND NOW FOR THE LEGS. 1.A cast of the original legs is made. An aluminium core and essential componenets are added into the mould. 2.The cast is filled with wax to recreate the same form as the Ercol leg. 3.The wax casting is removed and laid up with carbon fibre. 4.Through using the studio oven to melt out the wax in a unique lost wax process, we have acheived a very lightweight component.

As well as designing they have experimented with a range of unique finishes, sourced vintage timber to realise the bespoke product they are known for. The design is to be CNC 5 Axis Water jet machined out of pure black glass sheets equaling 220 in total. It s sculptural form pushes the boundaries of glass machining and attainable glass shapes.
