2 BEGINNING MAKE SURE YOU 1. WILL BE ABLE TO RETURN THE TOOLCART to its ORIGINAL CONFIGURATION [ie, study the toolcart] 2. Know how to use all the tools [ASK if you are not sure] 3. KNOW WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR [as in DATA and RESULTS] 4. Have safety glasses 5. Are aware of the dangerous steps 6. Have a plan for any difficult steps 7. Have necessary cleaning materials Lets begin! Drill

4 Prepare for the experiment Read the lab manual Always make sure you use the right tool for the right job Drill 4

5 Open jaws completely by rotating sleeve of chuck Drill 5

6 STOP NOW ask an instructor, programmer on duty [POD] or technician to supervise the next step. Failure to do this will result in a 5 MARK PENALTY in the performance grade. Drill

7 With screwdriver remove the screw inside the chuck (note it is a left hand screw) Unscrew by hand the chuck from the main shaft Drill 7

8 Carefully unscrew all the screws holding the front casing. Note the type of head on the screw the X shape is called Philips Make sure that you have 4 unscrewed screws You can not remove them now Drill 8

9 INCORRECT Carefully remove the front casing do so slowly so as to not lose any parts. Separate the drive assembly from the handle CORRECT Drill 9

10 Put the head of the drill aside Take the main casing of the drill (i.e. the body) in hand Do not lose the screws or removed parts Drill 10

11 Remove the 5 screws on the handle. Drill 11

12 Remove bolt. Drill 12

13 Make sure you observe the different screws (types and lengths) and remember their locations. Drill 13

14 Carefully separate the two halves of the handle. Bonus: what is the significance of this ring? Drill 14

16 Observe that it is possible to further disassemble the drill, but this is beyond the scope of this lab. Drill 16

17 Ensure workstation is clean and organised. Put some shop towels within your reach You may wear gloves to avoid getting grease on your hands (optional) Drill 17

18 Pick up the drive motor assembly [RESULTS] Explain how the bearing is held onto the shaft Drill 18

20 Carefully open the reducer drive subassembly Drill 20

26 MIDDLE You have finished disassembly Make sure you have 1. Accumulated as much data as possible 2. Analyzed and synthesized as many results as possible 3. CLEANed and ORGANIZed before resuming assembly Now on to reassembly Drill

32 CAREFULLY open brushes to allow insertion of the motor Drill 32

35 Screw in the screws to hold front casing Drill 35

36 Replace handle cover Drill 36

37 Replace screws to hold handle cover in place Drill 37

38 DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN Drill 38

39 Replace chuck and screw Drill 39

40 Ensure no optional parts remain on workbench Drill 40

41 END BEFORE YOU LEAVE Make sure you have 1. CLEANed and ORGANIZed your area. 2. Returned all tools as you found them. 3. HAD YOUR DATA SHEETS SIGNED TIME FOR A NAP Drill
