You will be prompted to update your design journal throughout this Scratch programme. However, you should add to your journals anytime during the process of designing projects to capture ideas, inspiration, notes, sketches, questions, frustrations, triumphs, etc. S c r a t c h 4

Gather feedback by having your critique group members respond to the Red, Yellow, Green reflection prompts. You should record other notes, feedback, and suggestions in your design journal. Clarity: Did you understand what the project is supposed to do? Features: What features does the project have? Appeal: How engaging is the project? Is it interactive, original, sophisticated, funny, or interesting? S c r a t c h 10
11 1. What was the most interesting part of this lesson? 2. What do you want to know more about? S c r a t c h 11

17 Debug It! Did You Know? The term debugging a computer was born when Grace Murray Hopper first debugged the Mark II computer. In 1947, when the computer was experiencing problems, an investigation showed that there was a moth stuck in a relay. The operators promptly removed the bug and taped it in the log book. Grace Hopper added the caption First case of bug being found. That was the first time anyone used the word bug to describe a computer glitch. Let s test and debug 5 Scratch projects! Step 1: Open a new tab on your web browser and navigate to the Scratch website: Step 2: Test and debug each of the 5 debugging challenges. 11. How did you identify and fix the problem for each challenge? S c r a t c h 17
18 About Me Making use of Scratch, we can combine interesting images and sounds to make an interactive collage about yourself. Experiment with sprites, costumes, backdrops, looks, and sounds to create an interactive Scratch project that helps other people learn more about YOU and the ideas, activities, and people that you care about Step 1: Open a new tab on your web browser and navigate to the Scratch website: Step 2: Click on Create at the top of the page to create a new Scratch project. S c r a t c h 18

What are the different ways that actions were triggered? 2. What were the different ways in which things were happening at the same time? S c r a t c h 21
22 Build-A-Band Utilize Scratch to create sounds, instruments, bands or styles of music that you love. Step 1: Create a sprite. Choose from the sprite library S c r a t c h 22
23 Step 2: Make it interactive by adding scripts that programs the sprite to respond to clicks/key presses etc. Repeat steps 1 & 2. You can add your completed Scratch project to the Build-A-Band studio: Hints: - Try to create a new instrument. You can then record sounds for your new instrument. Try brainstorming ideas with your classmate sitting beside you. Explore other projects to see what others are doing in Scratch. This can be a great way to find inspiration! S c r a t c h 23
