2 MISSION I : STRGZING SEEKER INTRODUCTION MTERILS NEEDED MESSGE SENT 5:9 ========================================= Your exploration team just heard about some underwater ruins found on the ocean floor, but your compass recently broke. Not a problem! Time to use the centuries old technique of navigating by the stars. Look to the constellation Leo the Lion to guide your team s research ship to the exact spot of the ruins far below. 5x8 0 cm gridded mat Painter's or masking tape Dash Blockly or Wonder Device =========================================

12 MISSION III : CURRENTS CONUNDRUM INTRODUCTION MTERILS NEEDED MESSGE SENT :06 ========================================= Now that you ve reached the underwater ruins, it's time to gather some artifacts to bring back to the team. However, your submersible is running out of power. You must ride the currents to get back to your ship to conduct additional research. ========================================= 5x8 0 cm gridded mat Painter's or masking tape Eleven 8 oz. cups: Eight cups for the coral reef Three cups for the artifacts* DIY materials for attachment construction Dash Blockly or Wonder Device *Use different colored cups or mark/decorate them.

C Place one cup in each of the following cells to represent the coral reefs: B5, B6, C, C5, C8, E, and E6. B Place one cup in the center of each of the following cells to represent the artifacts: B7, C, and C Construct an attachment to gather the artifacts. = STRT = CORL REEFS KEY = LOCTION OF RUINS = DIRECTION OF CURRENTS

Ride the currents by entering a cell from any direction, passing through the center, and exiting in the direction of the arrow. 0 Constructing an original attachment. (0 x + 0 = 50 possible challenge points) In any order, gather each of the artifacts found in B7, C, and C7 and bring each back to the surface in or. BONUS Do not disturb the coral reef found in B5, B6, B8, C, C5, 5 Decorating Dash as a submarine. C8, E, and E6. 0 Using proximity sensors. 5 Stay the course! Don t go outside of the grid. 0 Creating a presentation on the artifacts you found in the ruins. What clues did the artifacts give you about the ruins? You ve received a message that some of your team members are trapped in an underwater cave. They have sent their GPS locator coordinates, but they don t match the course they were supposed to take. It looks like underwater vents must have pushed them off course. Can you work backwards to deconstruct where these vents must be located by using their same route? 5x8 0 cm gridded mat Materials to mark where the cave is 8 oz. cups as the vents Dash Dot Blockly or Wonder Device You need to warn others of these naturally occurring phenomena. =========================================

22 MISSION V : DEEP BLUE DISCOVERY INTRODUCTION MTERILS NEEDED MESSGE SENT 06:8 ========================================= While exploring the cavern, your team discovered a mysterious sea creature, but it s tangled in trash from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. 5x8 0 cm gridded mat Four 8 oz. cups DIY construction materials In order to help it, you ll need to humanely trap the creature so that you can safely free it and help it return to its normal oceanic life. To capture the creature, you will need to surround it from all four sides. Move the trap walls from B, C, and D to surround the creature in C5 on three sides. 0 Forming the fourth wall. Create the fourth wall of the trap with your submarine. Remember, your trap can t touch the creature. Treat it with care. 0 Constructing an original attachment. Oh no! Looks like the creature escaped your trap and moved to C6, and the three trap walls have floated back to B, C, and D (0 x = 60 possible challenge points) Return to C to try again. BONUS Using the same program, again move the three traps in B, C, and D to surround the creature, now in C6, on three sides. 0 Creating an anti-ocean pollution campaign. Consider posters or infomercial-style videos. Create the fourth wall of the trap with your submarine. Remember, your trap cannot touch the creature.
