2 1 INTRODUCTION Hello my crafty friends! My name is Vicky Papaioannou, I am a mixed media artist and I also work as an independent designer in the crafting industry. I have a very popular blog and YouTube channel where I share step by step videos. I also travel a lot teaching workshops all over the world. I live in Greece with my husband, two kids and my cat Ginger. So today I am going to show you how you can find inspiration starting from the quote! We will be working with the quote: Create Something Every Day When you are starting from a quote find the most strong word and take a note of the objects that come in your mind when you think of that word. In this case the strongest word is CREATE so I will build my art around this. Here is a list of just a few objects that come into my mind when I think of this! Paintbrush Paint tubes Paint splashes Flowers and butterflies (represent happiness and freedom for me) Jar with water and paintbrushes

3 Palette These objects can be totally different for you! Just make a mental note of them, they will later become your focal points! We will make a girl and embed them all into her hair! 3 SUPPLIES You will find the supplies in a separate.pdf file provided to you. 4 CREATING THE BACKGROUND Now that we know the quote and our focal points we can go ahead and play with our background! Step 1 Use a stencil and apply with your spatula modelling paste, to create texture on your page. Step 2 Use a baby wipe and apply acrylic paint all over your background. Mix and match a couple of colors to make it more interesting. Start with less paint and build up as you go until you are happy with the outcome.

4 Step 3 Use the stencil you used in the first step. This time go over it with the acrylic paints you used for the background. Do not introduce a new color, to keep everything blended and subtle.

5 Step 4 Use a text stamp and do a little stamping on your background. Step 5 A splashes. Use white, black and also the acrylic colors that are already at the background. Your background is ready! Leave it to dry and let s work on our focal points!

6 5 FOCAL POINTS For our focal point we will have a girl with long hair. We will embed in her hair all the objects that come in our minds when we thing of the world create. To create your girl use any of the following ways that make you more comfortable drawing stamping print out images cut outs from magazines I used stamping. Step 1 Draw/Stamp your girl on a separate piece of paper. Step 2 Cut out and stick the girl on your page. TIP: Use matte medium to cover up the cut out too if you will use big brush markers to color her.

7 Step 3 Use a marker and free hand a border all around. It helps to frame your art and make it look more finished.

8 Step 4 Use your favorite method to color the girl. I used big brush markers and my favorite shading technique is demonstrated at the video. Step 5 Prepare your little objects. To create them use any of the following ways that make you more comfortable drawing stamping print out images cut outs from magazines

9 Step 6 Cut out the objects and stick them on your girl s hair. Use a craft knife to create little slits for the objects to sit in Step 7 Add color to your objects

10 Step 8 Do some doodling, with a thin black marker and some highlighting with a white gel pen

11 Step 9 Stamp or hand write your quote Step 10 Enjoy your beautiful art!
