2 Introductory Table Activities and Crafts RECOMMENDATION # 1 COLOR MIXING PIRATE EYE GLASSES Resources Required Party favors (inexpensive) glasses for kids and red, blue and yellow cellophane paper 1. Take out the existing lens from the glasses 2. One side of the glasses, tape a red, blue or yellow cellophane and make colored lens. 3. Make several glasses all with the colored lens on same side with cellophane. 4. Ask kids to select two pairs of glasses with different color cellophane and ask them what they see 5. When working with older students, you can challenge them by asking questions like, Can you find a pair of glasses that helps you make the color purple.. So if they have one red lens glass, the answer will be blue and so on RECOMMENDATION #2 COLORS KITCHEN Resources required: inexpensive hard plastic neon party supplies preferably red, blue and yellows Sample images Setup the table for play. Show the kids as they play in the colors kitchen the color creations when you place one object on another or stack different colors. Color mixing through manipulatives enables out of box thinking. 3 RECOMMENDATION #3 RAINBOW WATER BRIDGE Resources Required 6 clear glasses, Paper towels, Water, Food colors Red, Blue and Yellow This activity requires observation after 2-3 hours. So perform this activity at the start of the class and review at end of the class or review in the next class. If it s a short duration class, set up an additional experiment a few hours or one day prior to show the final observation to the class. 1. Set the 6 clear glasses in a circle 2. Fill every other cup with water, so 3 cups with water and 3 cups are empty 3. Add Food Colors 4 to 5 drops of Red, Blue and Yellow in Color in the glasses which contain water. 4. Take a paper towel twice length wise and connect each glass with a paper towel like a paper towel bridge 5. Wait for 2 to 3 hours and then observe a Rainbow bridge formation with 6 colors created 6. Cutouts on Pages 10 Use these cutouts with small amount of adhesive putty glue/tak putty. This allows you to reuse the cutouts with the sticky putty glue multiple times on the story board. If you plan to use clear sheet protectors, you can also store all the cutouts with the storyboard template. Alternatively you can do the standard cut and glue paste the cutouts. (here are some key words for the product purchase tac adhesive putty, tac and stick adhesive putty, tak putty, sticky putty, reusable putty, poster putty, mounting putty etc). 5 Step 3: Reemphasize ACTIVITY 1: PLAY DOUGH MINGLE Take 3 Primary color playdoh balls (Red, Blue and Yellow) Cut the balls into 4 parts (quarters) 1. Mix one part Red playdoh and one part Yellow Playdoh. Knead really well until the color of the playdoh changes to Orange 2. Mix one part Blue playdoh and one part Yellow Playdoh. Knead really well until the color of the playdoh changes to Green 3. Mix one part Red playdoh and one part Blue Playdoh. Knead really well until the color of the playdoh changes to Purple 4. Now the rest 2 parts of each playdoh color remaining Red, Blue and Yellow.. match them together 5. You will have 6 color balls of the same size. 6. Make a 6 color playdoh Rainbow ACTIVITY2: COLOR SCIENTIST Resources required - 3 color bowls with diluted red, blue and yellow colors, eye dropper, a coffee filter for better results or a paper 1. Give each student an eyedropper and a white piece of paper/coffee filter. 2. Have students mix drops of different colors on their paper and make different formations PAGE 5
