No. 672 (FDC ) NATO is a military alliance joining free and independent states having united to ensure international peace and to safeguard their independence by diplomatic and, if needed, military means. The organization s decisions are made by unanimous agreement of all members. To protect their sovereignty, Belgium, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Iceland, Italy, the United States of America, Canada, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, and France signed the North Atlantic Treaty in Washington on the 4th of April in This was the beginning of NATO. Starting with 1952, new members joined the organization. At the initial stage, NATO kept peace in Euro- Atlantic region. No The Barn Owl (Tyto alba) is especially rare bird inscribed into the Red Book of Lithuania. The barn owl tends to dwell in pastures, in hilly plots with plenty of uncut grass, and the places with a large population of rodents. They feed on mice, voles, shrews, and crickets. The Eurasian Pygmy Owl (Glaucidium passerinum) is one of rare owl species inscribed into the Red Book of Lithuania. Usually it is found in coniferous woods. 6 Maxicards No Artist I. Balakauskaitė The Barn Owl (Tyto alba) is one of the most mysterious birds in Lithuania, entangled with various legends and myths. The barn owl is a very rare bird, which is included into the Red Book of Lithuania. The upper part of the owl s body is light yellow and the lower part of the body is carroty, motley. The barn owl stands out with light heart-shaped cheeks, swaying movements. Sometimes the barn owls settle down with domestic pigeons. The natural enemy for the barn owls is a marten, which eats the eggs or kills the owlets. The Eurasian Pygmy Owl (Glaucidium passerinum) is an endangered owl in inscribed into the Red Book of Lithuania. It weights around 70 g and is the smallest owl found in Lithuania. The owl s back is gray-brown, the head and the back have small white dots. The Eurasian pygmy owl is a sedentary living bird. The biggest threat for the owl is intensive forestry activities, sanitary cuttings, causing the decrease in mature trees. Double-faced cover. Vertical format, bending in the middle. In 1950s, the European Coal and Steel Community started to unite European countries economically and politically in order to secure lasting peace. Initially, the six founders, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, cooperated mainly in the areas of trade and economy. At present, 28 EU member states with almost 500 million people are solving many other issues directly related with our everyday life. On the 1st of May 2004, Lithuania and other nine countries (Check Republic, Estonia, Cyprus, Latvia, Poland, Malta, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Hungary) became one of the then 25 EU member states with full rights. (FDC ) The goat-horn ožragis is a Lithuanian folk instrument made of the goat s horn with sound holes and wooden mouthpiece. From days of old, the goat-horn has been played by shepherds, hunters, and folk ensembles, and during the battles it has been used to give signals. The wooden bells skrabalai are made of wood in the shape of trapezium and hanging in a small trapezium shape wooden box. In remote times the wooden bells were common among shepherds they used to hang them on the cow s neck in order to locate their place following the bells sounds. The reed-pipe birbynė is a folk wind-instrumentusually made of goose feather, straw, wood cortex, wood, or beast horn. The plucked string musical instrument kanklės has a body made from wood of a deciduous tree, and the cover is made of fir. This instrument has 5-12 strings. 8 EXPRESSINFORMATION No. 90 //

No. 678 (FDC ) Booklet No. 2 (2014) Horizontal format, bending in the middle. The text is written in two languages: Lithuanian and English. A sheet of postage stamps pasted inside (3x2). Every booklet has a unique number. Artist M. Stasiulionytė. The Baltic Sea is the youngest world s sea and contains the smallest concentration of salts. The coast of the sea is one of the most beautiful coasts in Europe famous for diversity of banks, white beach sand and amber, the gold of North washed ashore by its waters. The amber scattered along the beach, being washed by waves, attract numbers of people wishing to experience the romance of search and discovery. Regretfully, due to specific geographical, climatic, and oceanographic conditions the Baltic Sea is very sensitive to human activities. Because of oil spills, intensive fishing, contaminants from soil (large amounts of nutrients coming from agricultural and industrial sectors) and very intensive navigation, this is the most endangered ecosystems in the world. Sheet of 20 (4x5) stamps 10 series. Printed in Garsų pasaulis, Vilnius, Lithuania. No (FDC ) Karaism, the religious movement, began in 8th century Iraq. Their house of God is called kenesa. Seraya Szapszal ( , Bağçasaray, Crimea) was a world famous orientalist, chief priest of Crimea, Poland and Lithuania, cultural figure. He wrote more than 100 scientific works, including works about Karaites history. S. Szapszal initiated the establishment of Vilnius Karaites history and literature lovers association and construction of the museum of Karaites in Trakai. The museum s exposition was based on S. Szapszal s private collection. Kenesa is a prayer house of Karaism. Vilnius kenesa opened its doors in 1923, after World War I. Vilnius kenesa is a Moorish-style prayer house, which was closed and reformed into the archive of geodesy service and residential premises during the Soviet occupation. In 1989, Vilnius Kenesa was returned to the community of Karaites. After repairs made in 1993, it was resanctified. 10 EXPRESSINFORMATION No. 90 //

Today, the Lithuania Song Festival is consisted of 6 main events and dozens of supplementary events, many Lithuanian emigrants join the festival every year.
