2 I. COURSE AIMS 1. Give a basic overview of gross human anatomy and macroscopic morphology; 2. Apply the basics for an advanced overview of the structure and organization of the human body; 3. Provide insight into the relationship between systemic and topographical anatomy; 4. Integrate underlying anatomical structure and basic clinical concepts; 5. Understand the human body by correlating the normal body, as seen in the cadaver room, with the images obtained using modern diagnostic visualization techniques (MRI, CT). II. Seminars will take place in Seminar halls 0 and 1, as well as in the Museum (Bone room) of the Department. Practicals (cadaver work): Cadaver rooms 1 and 2. IV. EXAMINATIONS Types of examination and examination dates 1). Weekly quizzes a) The format of the quizzes will be: - written (multiple choice questions, extended matching, fill-in answers, open-ended questions) - recognition of structure (written and practical) - oral b) To pass a weekly quiz students have to answer at least 75% of the questions correctly. c) All quizzes are pass/fail. 2). Partial exams a) In format similar to the weekly quizzes, but encompassing a larger number of topics (eg. the head, the abdomen, the pelvis etc.) b) The exact dates for large partial quizzes will be announced during the course - generally the partial quizzes will be held instead of a weekly quiz, unless specified differently during the course. c) To pass a partial quiz students have to answer at least 70% of the questions correctly. d) All quizzes are pass/fail.

14 e) There are 4 Partial quizzes: 1) The locomotor system, the extremities & the back; 2) Head and Neck; 3) Thorax; and 4) Abdomen and Pelvis. 3). The final examination a) Only students who have attended all classes will be allowed to enter an exam. b) The final examination will consist of three parts: the written, the practical and the oral. Students who have passed all partial quizzes will be exempt from taking the written and the practical exams. To pass the final written exam students have to answer at least 70% of the questions correctly. c) The practical exam will consist of at least 30 practical questions/anatomical structures: to pass the practical students will have to correctly identify and name at least 70% of the structures. d) The final oral examination determines the final mark for the course. To pass, students have to satisfactorily answer all (100%) of the final oral examination questions (the list of questions is available through LMS). Missing classes will not be tolerated. Should a student miss greater than 20% of the classes, that student will be denied entry to final exams in that academic year. To attend cadaver work students will need to have: 1) a lab coat (white), and 2) a pair of anatomical tweezers. Students without a lab coat will NOT be permitted to enter the cadaver room and will be marked as not present. Students are expected to behave decently and ethically, and dress appropriately throughout the course, especially working with the cadavers.
