3 7. Objective of Seminar The purpose of this seminar is to provide a forum, 1)To exchange information, research results and ideas between scientists from Korea and Japan, who are involved in the fields of information and communication technologies, intelligent systems, intelligent mechatronics and robotics and other related key technologies to share the common goals and seek for the solutions of the problems encountered in the ultra-aged society, and 2) To derive the future direction of research and development in these fields for 21st Century. The seminar included technical presentations which the scientists from both countries present their research results and proposals focused on the theme of the information and communication services, intelligent systems, and mechatronics and robotics. The technical presentations covered the fields of 1. Intelligent mechatronics and robotics 2. Flexible information and communication networks 3. Ubiquitous wireless paradigm 4. Intelligent human-machine interface 5. Intelligent transport systems 6. Nano and micro robotic systems 7. Biology mimetic systems and inspired systems During the seminar, a round table discussion were conducted, so that the scientists and engineers from both countries could discuss their ideas from the different viewpoints, promote the joint research projects which cover the industrial needs of both countries, and come up with the ideas of how to integrate and combine research results to propose sustainable model of improving the quality of life in the aged society. With intensive technical presentations and the round table discussions organized by the participants from Korea and Japan, the advance of research and development related with the information, communication, intelligent systems, and robotics and mechatronics formed in the network intelligent space was accelerated. It was highly likely to have chances to promote the joint research projects in this new field by exchanging their ideas. Future trends of industrial applications were discussed and identified with wide spectrum of research works and idea covered by the passionate participants from both countries. Subsequently, the future directions of the important research fields which discussed in this seminar will become clear and realized in near future in our daily life. 3
4 Specifically, the results were as follows: 1. Communication supports to support the deteriorated abilities by enhancing the normal functional abilities of the aged people. 2. Information acquisition and propagation to make it easy for the aged people to retrieve the memory and knowledge and assist the expression and presentation. 3. Robotics and mechatronics technology to reduce the labor loads for assistance and supports to aged people. 4. Safe mobility technology for the aged to move around in the environments freely and widen their activities physically. 5. Those intelligent integrated system, using the micro and nano devices to supports the aged people to work more energetically. 8.
