1 GPS BASED SHIP MONITORING AND CONTROLLING SYSTEM USING ZIGBEE G. Muthurajan 1, L. Jeyanthi 2 1 ECE, Periyar Maniammai Univerisity 2 Assistant Professor, ECE, Periyar Maniammai Univerisity Abstract The sea border between the countries is not easily identifiable, which is the main reason for this cross border vindictiveness, and many other problems between the countries. GPS offers a very easy and a relatively cheap way of finding out the correct location in the sea way, also delivers portable navigational guide. Using GPS, we can find the current latitude and longitude values and will be sent to the microcontroller unit. The Zigbee Transceiver is connected to the microcontroller unit at the ship, and also in the Base Control Centre we say Navy or Coastal Guard. The Zigbee is used to share the current location of the ship, to the Base Control Centre. The Predefined cross-over International Sea border location information will be loaded into the microcontroller, if the ship of defence or fisherman is trying to cross the sea border, then the Navy Control station can directly control the ship by passing the commands through the Zigbee Transceiver. Keywords GPS- Global Positioning System, SPS- Standard Positioning System, SCC- Ship Control Centre, BCC- Base control centre, ISRO- Indian Space Research Organisation, ARM- Advanced RISC Machines, RISC- Reduced Instruction Set Computer I. INTRODUCTION The objective of the project is to design and implement a security system for Security personnel as well as fishermen using proto type zigbee system. It senses the GPS data and control the ship position accordingly. If the ship is about to cross the border, it alarms and indicate the position. If further the ship is trying to cross the line of control border, then the data will be intimated to Base control centre (Navy or Coastal Guard). Now the ship will get warning signal and the ship motor control will be taken remotely by base control centre. Thus saving the life of human and upkeep of external affairs of neighbour countries will be saved by this system. This can be achieved more efficiently once our own indigenise system for positioning sytem as planned by ISRO by this year end. Moreover it will be further used by military purpose also by controlling the ships, aircrafts for cross border control by using precision service of Standard Positioning System. II. 2 SHIP CONTROL CENTRE (SCC) International Journal of Recent Trends in Engineering & Research (IJRTER) BLOCK DIAGRAM EXPLANATION The above block diagram of this paper contains the two divisions. They are ship and master control centre (Base control centre). At ship, the ARM processor is connected to ship motor, Zigbee Trans/Receive controller and GPS system. Whenever the ship is about to reach the line of control then as per the GPS data the processor will alarm through buzzer. If further the ship is crossing then the position of the ship will be intimated to base control centre. The GPS data as latitude and the longitude will be given to processor. It will convert the data to max232 for TTL logic. Further it will be given to zigbee to convert as required frequency for further transmission. At Master control centre, the frequency will be converted into required data and given to PC by zigbee Receive module. In case of any ambiguity, the master control centre will give necessary commands to zigbee trans circuit and it will be transmitted to zigbee receive of ship and control the ship motor remotely. Here the Zigbee Trans/receiver is used as a proto type transmission equipment. In future, with the use of satellite communication it will be made possible. The operation has been explained in the following All Rights Reserved 568

4 IV. APPLICATION SOFTWARE Application software is a computer program that functions and is operated by means of a computer, with the purpose of supporting or improving the software user's work. In other words, it is the subclass of computer software that employs the capabilities of a computer directly and thoroughly to a task that the user wishes to perform. This should be contrasted with system software (infrastructure) or middleware (computer services/ processes integrators), which is involved in integrating a computer's various capabilities, but typically does not directly apply them in the performance of tasks that benefit the user. In this context the term application refers to both the application software and its implementation. The application software for this project has been developed from a high level graphical programming language (visual basic).this method of implementation gives the user a more flexibility to have hands on the system. The application software is a virtual representation of the actual instrument and provides all facilities for the user to control the working of the system. This technique of operating the system (the actual instrument) is highly advantageous, as it does not permit the actual instrument to be misused, for example, here, the minimum and maximum ranges of the system is defined and hence prevents the user from exceeding the limits. Thus the application software provides high security to the actual instrument. Moreover certain graphical representation of the real time values with high resolution can also be All Rights Reserved 570
5 V. CONCLUSION AND FUTURE WORK With this paper, and the use of Standard positioning service (SPS) we can utilise our indigenised system to avoid further loss of human source in border areas too, in handling hostile and natural calamities. With the added features like CCTV coverage and recordings may be included in live transmission to base control centre will help out the untoward incidents and natural calamities. This system may be modified to use in the warfront area like robotic soldier to avoid valuable human lives. With the use of the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS), we can further workout to achieve accuracy, data transmission & reception and live streaming which will help out for military operations also as the IRNSS would provide two services, with the Restricted Service (an encrypted one) for authorised users (including the military), and the Standard Positioning Service open for civilian use.
