The rated dissipation applies only if the permitted film temperature is not exceeded. These resistors do not feature a limited lifetime when operated within the permissible limits. However, resistance value drift increasing over operating time may result in exceeding a limit acceptable to the specific application, thereby establishing a functional lifetime. 6 DESCRIPTION Production is strictly controlled and follows an extensive set of instructions established for reproducibility. A cermet film layer and a glass-over are deposited on a high grade (Al 2 O 3 ) ceramic substrate with its prepared inner contacts. A special laser is used to achieve the target value by smoothly fine trimming the resistive layer without damaging the ceramics. The resistor elements are covered by a protective coating designed for electrical, mechanical and climatic protection. The terminations receive a final pure tin on nickel plating. The result of the determined production is verified by an extensive testing procedure on 100 % of the individual chip resistors. Only accepted products are laid directly into the tape in accordance with IEC Type 1a and Type 2a (1). ASSEMBLY The resistors are suitable for processing on automatic SMD assembly systems. They are suitable for automatic soldering using wave, reflow or vapor phase as shown in IEC (1). The encapsulation is resistant to all cleaning solvents commonly used in the electronics industry, including alcohols, esters and aqueous solutions. The suitability of conformal coatings, potting compounds and their processes, if applied, shall be qualified by appropriate means to ensure the long-term stability of the whole system. The resistors are RoHS-compliant, the pure tin plating provides compatibility with lead (Pb)-free and lead-containing soldering processes. Solderability is specified for 2 years after production or requalification. The permitted storage time is 20 years. The immunity of the plating against tin whisker growth has been proven under extensive testing. 12 Product Group: Vishay Draloric / Beyschlag, Resistors / April 2018 Author: Shuki Likvornik Shuki.Likvornik@Vishay.com Vishay Discontinues Standard R-Chip Marking The marking of Vishay s standard R-chips in the 0603 to 2512 case sizes i.e. CRCW0603 CRCW2512 with TCR of ± 200 ppm/k / 5 %, TCR of ± 100 ppm/k / 1 %, and TCR of ± 200 ppm/k / 1 %, 0.0 Ω will be discontinued to improve the efficiency of the production process. Reel labels will enable product identification as before, and part numbers will not be changed. There will be no impact to the products performance or technical and environmental specifications (except the marking). Excluded from the change are chip arrays (CRA) and marked special R-chips, including the CRCW-IF, CRCW-P, CRCW-HP, RCA, RCG, RCL, D-AP, CRCW-AP, CRCW-TR, and CRCW-HR; shunts (RCWL, RCWE); CRCW lead (Pb)- bearing (SnPb) parts, and military R-chips, which all remain marked. The following products have never been marked: devices in the 0402 and smaller case sizes, as well as the RCV, RCC, RCS, CRAS, RCA LS, RCA-HP, RCA-IF, and RCA-AU. For the purpose of automated optical inspection (AOI), unmarked samples with undefined resistance are offered. Marking Pros and Cons Marking is sometimes used during the placement process to (re-)confirm that the correct resistance has been selected. This is done using an AOI system. On the other hand, the different appearance of markings (3-digit, 4- digit, and supplier-dependent) requires certain AOI teaching efforts per component, which can otherwise be avoided. Today, a lot of passive components are already unmarked. Among them are all resistors from all manufacturers in 0402 and smaller case sizes, Vishay s MC series of thin film resistors, which has been on the market for 25 years, and MLCCs. Product identification can also be (and is) conducted using the reel label. The manufacturer assures that the resistor in the reel is the same as indicated on the reel label (as the manufacturer assures that the resistor s resistance is the same as indicated by the marking).
