ENSC 427: Communica1on Networks Spring 2014 Final Project Presenta1on Performance of Mobile Ad- Hoc Network Rou9ng Protocols Project website: hbp:// Tariq Rizvi ( ) Aziz Mikwar Team 14 1
Performance of Mobile Ad- Hoc Network Rou9ng Protocols 2
Outline Introduc1on Design Requirements of Rou1ng Protocol Design Requirements of Mobile Ad Hoc Rou1ng Protocol Classifica1on of Rou1ng Protocols Rou1ng Protocols To Be Tested Performance Metrics Network Parameter, Layout and Scenarios Simula1on Results Conclusion 3
What is a Mobile Ad Hoc Network? Decentralized network Infrastructure less : no routers and switches Self- organizing Adap1ve to Dynamic Topology Based on packet switched technology :Internet Protocol (IP) Mul1ple network hops 4
Rou1ng Mechanism for determining the set of best paths for rou1ng packets Part and parcel of packet switched network Design requirements: 1. Responsiveness to changes 2. Op9mality 3. Robustness 4. Implementa9on 5
Mobile Ad Hoc Rou1ng Protocols Wired networks Rou1ng Protocols cannot be directly applied to ad hoc wireless networks Why the need of specific Mobile Rou1ng Protocols? More Specific Design Requirements Exceedingly dynamic topology Bandwidth Limita9ons Channel Quality Limited Resources 6
Desirable characteris1cs of Mobile Rou1ng Protocols Ability to func1on in wholly distributed and decentralized sedng Adap1ve to repeated topology deforma1on Limited bandwidth u1liza1on Convergence to the most efficient route quickly 7
Classifica1on of Rou1ng Protocols Proac1ve or table- driven Rou1ng Protocols - Maintain comprehensive rou1ng informa1on in the rou1ng table Reac1ve Rou1ng Protocols - Also called on- demand protocol - Procure rou1ng path while needed Hybrid Rou1ng Combina1on Par11on of Network into Zones 8
Rou1ng Protocols To Be Tested Dynamic Source Rou9ng (DSR) - Source Rou1ng - On- demand (Reac1ve)protocol Ad Hoc On- Demand Distance Vector (AODV) - Op1mized distance vector rou1ng - On- demand (Reac1ve) protocol Op9mized Link State Rou9ng (OLSR) - Table- driven (proac1ve) - Link state informa1on is sent periodically in their control packets 9
How do we know which one is beber? Throughput Rate Traffic Overhead Delay Performance Metrics 10
Network parameters Parameter Value Number of nodes 10 Size of sub network 1Km x 1Km Network Standards IEEE b Power 5mW Data bit rate 11Mbs Traffic FTP (Heavy, Low) Node Mobility Speed 10m/s, 30 m/s 11
Network Layout 12
Scenarios Protocol\ Parameter Traffic Mobility Speed AODV Low 10m/s AODV Low 30m/s AODV High 10m/s AODV High 30m/s DSR Low 10m/s DSR Low 30m/s DSR High 10m/s DSR High 30m/s OLSR Low 10m/s OLSR Low 30m/s OLSR High 10m/s OLSR High 30m/s 13
Overhead Simula1on Results 14
End- To- End Delay Simula1on Results 15
Throughput Simula1on Results 16
Simula1on Results OLSR has the best in Throughput rate and End- To- End delay, but the worst Overhead. DSR is the best in overhead rate. AODV has a beber delay in low traffic and low mobility speed. 17
Conclusion Rou1ng Protocol superiority depends on scenarios OLSR is superior in high capacity networks DSR is superior in low capacity networks Network load has a significant effect on network performance, whereas node speed (dynamic topology) did not have a big impact on the results Proac1ve protocols behave beber in high capacity networks Reac1ve protocols are beber in low capacity networks 18
