2 TYNI RIGNALLING The area bet ween approximately 7 rn.p. (York to Newc as t le mileage) and approximately m.p. (Newcastle t o Berwic k mileage), t o be k nown as Plessey, also bet ween Blaydon (excl.) and Park Lane Junction, will be resignalled ov er t wo weekends. The dividing line bet ween the work on t he first weekend and that for the second weekend is s hown by a heavy black line on the drawing whic h accompanies this notice. This drawing s hows the resignalling as it will be at the end of the second weekend. As t he new signalling is commis s ioned it will be controlled by the new Tyneside signal box. uring t he first week end, t he area controlled by Gateshead signal box will be transferred t o t he control of Tyneside signal box and at the end of that period Gateshead signal box will be abolished, also that part of the area controlled by Tyne Yard signal box as far south as approximately 70 rn.p. will be resignalled and control transferred t o the n e w Tyneside signal box. On the second week end, t he signal boxes at Newcastle, Heat on and Benton will be abolished and the areas of control will be transferred t o the new Tyneside signal box, also, o wn line aut omat ic signals M l, M and M (bet ween 9/ m. p. and 'A m. p. ) will be replaced by signals controlled by Tyneside signal box. etails of the links between the "o l d " and " n e w " signalling, whic h will apply after work on the first weekend until final commissioning on the second weekend, are s hown on separate drawings in this notice. Tyneside signal box will work to the existing signal boxes at Tyne Yard, Blaydon, Wardley, Boldon Colliery, News ham, and Morpeth. Ty ne Yard signal box will continue to control the main line south of approximately 7 m. p. Note: In s ome cases the existing signals are re-used wit h n e w prefix let t er and number. All distances s hown in t he diagram are in yards. T h e low lines bet ween K..B. out h and Nort h Junctions will be replaced by one low line wit h bi-direc t ional signalling. 0. T h e Wes t Curve, bet ween High Level Bridge Junction and Greensfield Junction, will bec ome bi-directionally signalled and will be k nown as t he o wn/ p Wes t Curv e. 0. N e w trailing and facing crossovers will be brought into use on High Level Bridge and will be k nown as High Level Bridge Central Junction. Forth Br anch (Formerly Paradise Branch) The Forth Branch will be signalled as a Track Circuit Block ingle line as far as the TOP board at approx 0/ m.p. From the TOP board to Forth ngineers idings and Castle Cement, the line will become a One Train Work ing wit h Token obtained f rom the 'No ignalman Key Tok en" ins t rument situated adjacent to the TOP board. The token will be released by the ignalman at Tyneside signal box and will be used t o unlock t he Ground Frames. When mov ement s hav e been s hut in at t he ngineer's Ground Frame, the token mus t be returned t o the ins t rument and t he release given up. Newcastle tation Off indicators will be provided to work in conjunction wit h signals 86, 88, 9, 9, 96, 50, 50, 506, 508, 5, 5, 5, 5, 55, 57, 5 9 and 5.

The signalling will be used on t he occasions when single line work ing woul d prev ious ly have been used i.e. f or ngineers possessions or in the event of an obstruction of the line by a failed train or broken rail etc. The signalling will not be used f or train regulating purposes.
