3 1 Introduction This document is the interface description for MTT, an encryption unit for tactical radio systems used in the MAEI system. The description covers the mechanical and electrical interfaces. For functional descriptions, see [1]. 1.1 Change History Rev. Changes Author Date 1.0 First issue. 4 2 Overview Fill interface: Interface for key fill, configuration and software update. Connects to a DFD for key fill and configuration and to a PC for software update. 2. MIC interface: Plaintext audio interface for connection of standard radio handsets and other compatible devices, for example, intercom system LTS LTS interface: Plaintext audio interface for connection of intercom system LTS 80/90/100 and other compatible devices, for example, speaker amplifier. 4. Radio interface: Interface for network access. Connects to, for example, vehicular and manpack radios. 5. Data interface: Plaintext data interface for connection of Data Terminal Equipment (DTE). 5 3 Interfaces 3.1 Fill Interface The Fill interface is an interface for key fill, configuration and software update. It connects to a DFD for key fill and configuration and to a PC for software update. The interface comprises: Power interface: DC output for power supply of a connected fill device. Control interface: Serial interface for configuration and software update. The interface is a DCE interface that complies with V.24 for asynchronous communication. The following signals are provided: TD, RD and DTR. An inverted TD signal is also supported. The data rate is bps. Key interface: Dedicated serial interface for key fill. The interface is a DCE interface that complies with V.24 for asynchronous communication. The following signals are provided: TD, RD and DTR. The data rate is 9600 bps. 7 3.3 LTS Interface LTS is a plaintext audio interface for connection of intercom system LTS 80/90/100 and other compatible devices, for example, speaker amplifier. The interface comprises: Power interface: DC output for power supply of external equipment, e.g. speaker amplifier. Audio interface: Supports 3 khz audio with PTT input. Output level and input sensitivity is fixed. 8 3.4 Data Interface The Data interface is a plaintext data interface for connection of data terminal equipment (DTE). The interface is a DCE interface that complies with V.24 for asynchronous serial communication. The following signals are provided: TD, RD, DTR, DSR, RTS, CTS and DCD. Data rates up to kbps are supported. Note that the maximum data rate also depends on the environment, e.g. cable length and the characteristics of the interface circuit of the connected equipment. 9 Hook Switch A hook switch is connected as shown in the following figure. Hook out Hook in Open => on-hook Closed => off-hook Figure 1. Hook switch connection Data Transmission The DTE sets RTS to initiate data transmission. The DCE responds by setting CTS when transmit setup is finished. The DTE then starts transmitting. The transmit setup delay varies and depends on the type of network. For Ra 180, the setup time is in the order of 1 second. In case transmit setup fails, CTS will not be set. The DTE sets RTS off at the end of transmission. The DCE discards all data received on the serial interface when RTS is off. The DCE implements flow control to handle the fact that the asynchronous data rate on the local serial interface is higher then the synchronous data rate on the line. The DTE must stop sending data when CTS is off. Data transmission can be resumed when CTS is set again. Note that RTS must be off to enable data reception. RTS CTS TD Figure 2. Data transmission Data Reception The DCE sets DCD when receiving data. Received data is output at a pace controlled by the synchronous data rate on the line. As the asynchronous data rate on the local serial interface is higher, received data will be interleaved with short idle periods. DCD is also set when traffic is received or transmitted via other interfaces, i.e. voice traffic. In this case, the received data signal is idle. Note that the DCD signal provides carrier sense that can be used with various link access methods. DCD RD Figure 3. Data reception Page 9 (13)

10 3.5 Radio Interface The Radio interface is a multi-function network interface that comprises: Audio interface: Supports 3 khz audio with PTT output and squelch input. Output level and input sensitivity is fixed by configuration. Can be configured for either portable or vehicular use. Line interface: Two-wire interface compatible with Ra 180/GS2. Supports audio (3 khz), low speed data (V.21, 300 bps) and high speed data (AMI, 16 kbps ± 10 ppm). Data interface: Serial interface for connection of DCE. The interface is a DTE interface that complies with V.24 for asynchronous and synchronous communication. The following signals are provided: TD, RD, DTR, DSR, RTS, CTS, DCD, RI, TCK and RCK. Data rates up to kbps asynchronous and 64 kbps synchronous are supported. Note that the maximum practical data rate depends on the cable length and the characteristics of the interface circuit of the connected equipment. Power interface: DC input compatible with MIL-STD-1275B for 28 V DC electrical systems in military vehicles. Note that supplied power is also available on the LTS/Power output for supply of connected equipment.
