3 1.0 Scope This document provides customer specifications for Vikuiti Dual Brightness Enhancement Film Embossed (DBEF-E) for kits 2.0 Function DBEF-E is a thin and flexible reflective polarizing film. One side has an embossed surface and the other side is glossy. The embossed side has printed premask; the glossy side has plain premask. When DBEF is used in an LCD backlight, it increases brightness and provides wide viewing angle. 3.0 Material A multilayer polyester-based film. 4.0 Structure Structure (not to scale) Printed premask k DBEF Plain premask Embossed surface Smooth surface 5.0 Definitions 5.1 Optical Gain: Increase in normal axis luminance of an LCD module using DBEF-E on a backlight Color shift: Change of color (x, y) at normal axis (0 ) and at 60 of LCD module using DBEF-E on a backlight. 5.2 Cosmetic Point defect: Dark or light colored, opaque or translucent spot. 4 5.2.2 Other defects: Contamination, distortion and others that may affect the performance of DBEF-E. Dust or lint on the surface of DBEF-E that is easily removed by wiping and/or air flow is excluded Scratch: Any line-like defect. Size and shape defined as greater than 4:1 aspect ratio and a 0.5mm, where "a" is defined in drawing above Banding: Transmission axis flow patterns within the film Color non-uniformity: Color streaks that are visible at higher observation angles than normal Fitness for use (FFU): Accept/reject decision made based on a part being fit for use in an application M Standard Display (CIS - Cosmetic Inspection Station, Model #CIS1001) constructed as shown below. The sample is inspected by transmitted light with diffuse polarizer filter on the sample simulating an LCD panel. Then, color change (ΔE) is calculated based on JIS K7103 and K7105. Procedure: Put on backlight so matte surface touches the top glass of the backlight. Put 4.9 kpa weight on DBEF-M, and keep 5 seconds. Remove the weight and observe if there is optical coupling between matte surface and glass. 8 11.0 Patent This product, uses thereof, or its manufacture may be covered by one or more of the patents listed on the package labels Packaging Packaged per local supplier agreement. If product is shown to be defective during this warranty period, 3M s sole liability and purchaser s exclusive remedy is, at 3M s option, for 3M to refund the purchase price of the product or provide replacement product in the quantity shown to be defective. 3M makes no additional warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to, any implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. In particular, but without limitation, 3M makes no representations or warranties concerning the effective life of the products or their ability to survive user s environmental testing. Purchaser is responsible for determining whether the 3M products are fit for the purchaser s particular purpose and suitable for the purchaser s method of production. 3M shall not be liable for any loss or damages, whether non-specified direct, indirect, special, incidental or consequential (including downtime, loss of profits or goodwill) regardless of the legal theory asserted.
