Attention for creating print data 1. Print data needs to be created by professional graphics software like Photoshop CS. For the use of Photoshop, please refer to a Photoshop instruction manual which is provided by software supplier. CMYK color mode must be supported. You cannot use anything with limited functions such as Photoshop Elements. 2. Due to the distinctive paints with strong hiding power, light or subdued tints and gradation are especially difficult to be depicted accurately. Therefore, the actually printed color image will not be exactly the same as the color image seen on the monitor. (Gold, silver, metallic and fluorescent colors are not supported.) 3. Mist of paints could increase if you print on a slope part of the tire. Please print on a flat part as much as possible. Nozzle Mist of paints Profile of tire 4. In addition, please do not print the part which is near to the wheel (green part in the picture) because some cracks can occur

Create the Printing Data It is necessary to go through the procedures at least from 1 (size calculation) to 4 (making of the alpha channel) and 8 (preservation) to make any kind of data. 1. Calculate print data size. Measure a diameter of tire and a width to print with measuring tape and determine the print data size (pixel value). Printable area e.g.) When you want to have a print size of 600mm diameter, divide it by 0.4 mm. 600mm 0.4 = 1500 pixels Set the print data as 1500 x 1500 pixels. e.g.) When you want to have a print width of 40 mm, divide it by 0.4 mm. 40mm 0.4 = 100 pixels Make the print data with the width of 100 pixels. 320mm (12.6 inches) 2125 pixels 850mm (33 inches) 2. Open new file with Photoshop. Click [File]-[New ] in menu bar. Input pixel data in Width and Height. Select [CMYK Color] and [8bit] in Color Mode. Open new file Input pixel values for width and height then select CMYK color for the mode. Select Transparent in Background contents

3. Display a grid line in the center. Click [Edit]-[Preferences]-[Guides, Grid & Slices ]. Set [50] and [Percent] in [Gridline Every], and then set [1] in [Subdivisions]. Click OK. After setting the above, click [View]-[Show]-[Grid] and grid line will be displayed. grid line Display scale. Go to [View] and [Rulers]. Other than the above settings in [Preferences], please check [Show Channels in Color] in [Options] of [Interface]. Please also designate [Pixels] for [Rulers] and [Type] in [Units] of [Units & Rulers]. Besides, it is convenient to display each window (pallet) of [Channels] [History] [Info] in [Window] by checking them. Example: Channel pallet - 4 -

4. Make data of white and primer (alpha channel). Magnify the center where the grid lines are crossed with Zoom tool +. Then select Elliptical Marquee tool. Set the style as Fixed Size. Then, input the pixel values for its width and height. Zoom Tool If cursor is -, you can change it to + ( magnification ) by pushing Alt key. Put a cursor on the center and click one time pushing Alt key to draw a circle from the center. Go to [Select]-[Save Selection] and create alpha channel. If you mistakenly click twice, 1/4 of the circle will be cut. In this case, please delete this operation in History. A part that is indicated in black in the alpha channel is printed (K: 1 ~ 100%). If the selected area is white like Fig 1, please double click the alpha channel. Then, you can select Masked Areas or Selected areas. Please check either one. Fig 1 Double click here - 5 -

Then, click [Select]-[Transform Selection]. Drag the right top corner pushing Alt key & Shift key and make the selected area small by print width x 2. (Example:If print data size is 1500px and print width is 100px, drag it to the point where W H is 1300px.) If the selected area is determined, click [ ] to fix it. the left, click If the indication is like Push Delete key once to paint white, or click [Edit]-[Cut]. Please keep background color in white. click foreground color background color if the background color is not white, you can change it to white by clicking background color. The part indicated in black is the data of P & W. An alpha channel which is for the data of white and primer is made. It is impossible to add gradation expression with alpha channel (eg; adding gradation to white color) (Please save the file with a name with [File]-[Save As ] in Tiff) - 6 -

5. Make CMYK data. We will use the example called ring which has the data of alpha channel that has been made on the last page (W/H 1500, width 100 pixels). We will also use the following image that is called image A assuming that it has already been made with W545/H145). We will put some of image A on ring from now on. Open image A from [File]-[Open ]. 6. Adjust the size of image A. If a wide size of image A is short assuming that you put some of image A on ring, please widen an image in right and left. ( [Image]-[Canvas Size ] ) Please make background for the area that you widened. In addition, it is necessary to put it on the ring with 100pixel. If the height (H) of the original image is too big or too small, please adjust it to the width of the ring with [Image]-[Image Size ] [Constrain Proportions]. Make gradation in the background because there is the gradation from yellow to green in the example. Gradation First, make a new layer with [Layer]-[New]-[Layer ]. Click colored square and then click top of the image. Click OK in Color Picker dialog. The first color has been determined. Then, click background color bottom of the image OK in Color picker dialog. The second color has been determined. If the direction of moving the mouth is different, you will have different gradation. Click gradation tool and move the mouth from top to bottom of the image. Then, the gradation will be made

Change the turn of layer 1 by dragging it under Background copy in layer pallet. (Please save image A with a name in PSD file here.) 7. Deform images. Integrate the layers in image A with [Layer]-[Merge Visible] or [Flatten Image]. Then, carry out [Select]-[All], [Edit]-[Copy]. Click the tab of the ring and then click CMYK in channel pallet. After that, carry out [Edit]-[Paste]. Display the alpha channel. If you paste it without clicking CMYK in the channel pallet, it is pasted on the alpha channel. Please do it again in this case. In Select, select all of the pasted image A or carry out [Select]-[All]. Move it to upside by Move tool. Enlarge it so that you can easily deform it. Move Tool With [Edit]-[Transform]-[Warp], deform image A to overlap it along with the alpha channel

Adjust the shape with mouth. After adjusting the shape, Click [ ] to determine the deformation. If there are some uneven parts which are out of the ring, cut them later. a) [Select]-[All] b) [Edit]-[Copy] c) [Edit]-[Paste Special]-[Paste in Place] d) [Select]-[All] e) [Edit]-[Transform]-[Rotate] f) [ ] (to determine the deformation) Repeat the above procedure and rotate the layer by dragging the image

8. Integrate the layers and save it. Before integrating the layers, set an alpha channel to non-indication in the channel pallet. Then, minimize the color difference in the parts where the layers are overlapped with Eraser tool. Integrate the layers with [Layer]-[Merge Visible]. In order to eliminate the uneven parts that were made at deformation, first read Alpha 1 with [Select]-[Load Selection ] and carry out [Select]-[Inverse]. After that, cut them with [Edit]-[Cut]. Save the data with a name with [File]-[Save As ]. Please save it in TIFF file and rememer the place of it and the file name. [Attention for the creation of print data] 1. Color mode has to be CMYK (8 bit/ channel). 2. Channels must be comprised of CMYK 4 channel and alpha channel. Alpha channel data will be applied to White and primer nozzles. Delete all the unnecessary channels before saving data. 3. File type must be TIFF. The layers can be included. But please delete the unnecessary layers because the file size becomes big

Make data from original data 1. Determine the part where you want to print from the original data. Select the data taking into account the pixel vales of print. For instance, if you convert the data 200 pixels for one side to the print data of 1500 pixels for one side, you will have poor image quality. You can use the original data of RGB color. The part where you want to print. 2. Extract a print area. Open an original file in Photoshop and select Elliptical Marquee Tool. Select [Fixed Ratio] (Width:1,Height: 1 ) in Style of Menu bar and then select the image. You can change a size of the selected area. First, click [Select]-[Transform Selection]. Then, drag one of squares while pushing Shift key. In addition, you can also change a position of the selected area by dragging the selected area. After determining the selected area, click [ ] Carry out [Edit]-[Copy]

3. Edit as a new file Go to [File]-[New ] and click OK in New dialog. Paste the extracted image with [Edit]-[Paste]. If the data is based on RGB color, change it to CMYK with [Image]-[Mode]-[CMYK Color]. If confirmation dialog shows up, click OK. Go to [Image]-[Image Size ] to put pixel size in Width & Height and click OK. If the display is enlarged, please make it small by zoom tool(-). 4. Make an alpha channel Please make the alpha channel based on the procedure of NO.4 in Create the Printing Data. Attention: When you cut the center part (make it white), please do that with the state where the alpha channel is selected (the state after clicking alpha channel 1 in channel pallet)

5. Complete the data and save it. Click CMYK channel in channel pallet. Read alpha channel 1 with [Select]-[Load Selection ]. After [Select]-[Inverse], cut with [Edit]-[Cut]. Save the data with a name with [File]-[Save As ]. Please save it in TIFF file and rememer the place of it and the file name. Fine adjustment of data size You can adjust trimming and resolution when selecting the print data in printer. (Please refer to Select print data in operation manual.)

How to Create Data for Letters We will explain the examples to put letters and to change letter format here. The design only with letters is unsuitable for a print. When you put letters, please be sure to put a back ground as well. 1. Open original data with Photoshop. 2. Click letter tool and set letter format. Select font and style of letters. You can select anything here except none. This is for anti-alias. It is convenient if you convert the letter size to pixel in advance. 38 Method to print discontinuous data When you print discontinuous data (for example, letters in one part or design including one point), it takes some time from a nozzle discharge to the next nozzle discharge. With this, the nozzle tip is easy to become dry and as a result, the discharge could be unstable. Example data print result Magenta slips off at letters. In this case, you will make an area of dummy print before the discharge and cover the mask on the dummy print area when printing. dummy print area Example of printing letters In the case of ITALY, it is printed twice. First, you will print white, and green and red lines where the letter parts are eliminated. After the print, you will put masking on the dummy print area and will print the letters of ITALY just with color nozzles. This is the two times coating. So please be careful not to move the position of the tire I the interval between the end of the first print and the start of the second print. Rotating direction Example of one point The data of alpha channel will be made just for one point data and dummy print area. We will explain a way of making data with the above two examples from the next page
