2 COMPANY HISTORY Founded in 1960 to provide synthetic fused silica for military radar applications, Dynasil has become widely recognized in the industry as a reliable supplier of the highest quality optical materials. As the aerospace and laser optics industries fueled an explosive demand for optical materials in the 1970 s, Dynasil expanded with the market and became a major supplier of synthetic fused silica components to the optics industry. In recent decades, new markets have emerged steadily, accompanied by an increased demand for additional high performance products. Today, Dynasil is a vital link in the manufacturing processes of photonics companies around the globe. Its products are used in the manufacture of optical components, lasers, semiconductors, telecom equipment, electronics, scientific instruments, and an assortment of energy and aerospace applications. In addition to fused silica, Dynasil fabricates optical blanks and other components from a variety of other manufacturers optical materials. 3 OUR PRODUCTS Dynasil fabricates optical blanks from synthetic fused silica, fused quartz, and other optical materials in the following standard shapes and sizes: DISCS: to 24 diameter, 4.5 thick SOLID RODS: to 4.5 in length. BARS/BLOCKS: to 50 diagonal, 6 thick CUBES: to 6 MATERIALS TESTING AND CERTIFICATION At the heart of Dynasil s specialized skills is our knowledge of optical glass and our in-house capabilities to test and certify our products to our customers requirements. 5 HOMOGENEITY OF SYNTHETIC FUSED SILICA DEFINITION Optical homogeneity refers to the degree of refractive index change ( n) along the optical path within a given melt or blank, exclusive of very localized chemical impurities, bubbles, striae, etc. The variations are usually attributed to density variations caused by chemical inhomogeneities and thermodynamic stresses. The n data for Synthetic Fused Silica supplied by Dynasil is shown in Table 1. IMPORTANCE The homogeneity of an optical element is of paramount importance since variations in refractive index distort the wavefront of light transmitted through the optical component. Designers and fabricators of high resolution or high performance optical systems may (or may not) require very homogenous silica to meet stringent performance requirements. SPECIFICATION Once the limit of the wavefront distortion arising from the index inhomogeneity is determined, the following equation can be used to determine the corresponding quantitative specification of the inhomogeneity. MEASUREMENT An interferometer is the standard and most acceptable instrument for quantitative inhomogeneity measurements. Dynasil maintains its quality product standards by using the oil-on-plate method to obtain an interferogram using a custom-made state-of-the-art Fizeau laser interferometer with a 12 aperture. With blanks larger than 12, the required number of interferograms is taken to cover the entire blank. When multiple interferograms are required, they are overlapped by several inches to establish fringe continuity. In addition to the 12 Fizeau interferometer, Dynasil has the required software to automatically interpret the interference patterns. The Peak-to-Valley and RMS deviations from a plane are calculated in terms of waves or fringes. The software also corrects for errors in the test plate and elsewhere in the optical system so that the final result shows only the the distortion produced by inhomogeneity in the blank. 6 ORDERING INFORMATION SPECIAL SIZES, SHAPES & GRADES We invite inquiries for special sizes and shapes in any grade and in any optical material. Dynasil offers a full spectrum of raw material, and is equipped to cut, core and fine grind precision blanks of virtually any shape, in prototype and production quantities. PRICES Call, fax or for a price quotation. All orders will be acknowledged at quoted price provided the order is placed within 30 days of the quotation, or as otherwise noted on the quotation. Quantity discounts are usually available on most items. There is a minimum charge of $ per order. PAYMENT TERMS Orders are subject to credit approval and final acceptance by Dynasil, West Berlin, New Jersey. Payments for individual or partial shipments under any purchase order shall be in U.S. currency net F.O.B. point, packaging included. Payment is net 30 days from date of invoice. Unpaid balances after 30 days subject to 1-1 /2% per month finance charge. Orders may not be cancelled except upon agreement by Dynasil and only prior to machining. DELIVERY All deliveries are FOB West Berlin, New Jersey, unless acknowledged otherwise (see order acknowledgement). Any loss or damage claims should be filed by the purchaser with the carrier. Unless directed otherwise Dynasil will ship by most expedient means of transportation. TAXES The purchaser is liable for all applicable taxes. WARRANTY Dynasil warrants to the purchaser that the products delivered will conform to customer specifications as referenced in the quotation and/or in the acknowledged purchase order.
