6 MARCH 2013 Aquarium rt n e w s l e t t e r Elements of Design Each month we are focusing on an element of design. March- Line April- Value Principles of Design Using design principles monthly to create visual appeal. March- Positive/Negative April- Contrast History We are studying the techniques of famous artists. Various artist studies by grade level. China Art Appreciation We will be focusing on learning how to appreciate works of art. Character Counts and Artwork Critiques ONE LESSON AT A TIME LEARNING TO DESIGN Art is all around us! Share the beauty of artwork! In February, we learned about Chinese and Japanese artwork and techniques. Different grade levels worked on projects to learn their techniques using line. Line can be used to create a pattern, shape and texture. Did your child share with you the sculptures we seen on our way to the Aquatic Center?? We have been comparing all of the artwork that we saw in our town, to other American works of art an art in other countries. In March, students will be focusing on the components of value. Students will review how a hue changes by adding white to create a tint and adding black to a color to create a shade. Students will practice using value to create more realistic artwork. I look forward to seeing all 6th, 4th and 2nd grade parents during our Parent Art Days on March 4-6 during their specials time! Thank you for your support for the visual arts.! We will be finishing our clay projects as well this month! Students will have the opportunity to glaze their work for final firing.! Waves of fine art have been circulating in our building. Students will be celebrating their work in the 2013 Art Gala at CAM-PLEX in May. I have been keeping work for the Gala and will be returned after the celebration! Mrs. Lawrence- Art Teacher Aquarium Hours Monday-Friday 8:45-3:30p.m. Admission Students under 13! Adults with Visitor Pass! Aquarium Members! Let your creativity swim free!
