2 Arbor Christian College Case study of the design and supply of a sample sign system Project Overview When visitors to Arbor Christian College* would consistently get lost on their way to Reception, the college decided it was time to upgrade their signage. Signs had been acquired on an ad hoc basis for years with diverse colours and inconsistent fonts. This created a messy, scattered and shoddy impression of the school grounds. Concurrently, Arbor had launched a project to rebrand their school in an effort to increase enrolments in the local demographic. They hoped that a reinvigorated brand would communicate the ethos of the school to local parents: integrity, care of the family and quality education. Danthonia Designs proposed to design and supply a comprehensive sign system including entry statements and wayfinding signs. The end result: a highly functional sign system that rebranded Arbor Christian College with their school ethos. *Name of school changed to protect the privacy of our clients. The Design Process 3 Once the signage needs were clearly defined the creative process began. We created an overall strategy for marketing, placemaking and wayfinding signs.

This was an evolutionary process; the designs and concepts taking shape from designer creativity and client input and insight.

3 The Design Process 3 Once the signage needs were clearly defined the creative process began. We created an overall strategy for marketing, placemaking and wayfinding signs. Then we actualised the strategy by establishing sign types and developing graphic designs for each type. This was an evolutionary process; the designs and concepts taking shape from designer creativity and client input and insight. Background In August 1977, Arbor Christian College consisted of one teacher, twelve children, and a handful of motivated parents who were keen to ensure their children received a high quality Christian education. Today, over 400 students enjoy a sprawling campus and many diverse educational opportunities with over 50 staff. The Design Approach The Collaboration It was important that the decision makers at Arbor Christian College remained informed and involved throughout the project. With multiple parties weighing in, a large project can become complex at best and at worst, important details may be overlooked. To keep it all straight, Danthonia made Arbor an account with a username and login at our online Design Portal. Our one stop shop guarantees that you ll get more than a pretty picture. As the signage for Arbor was being designed, we chose the most appropriate materials and construction techniques. Finally, the graphics were turned into shop drawings and signs were produced from only the highest quality components available Sign panels are painted with Dulux Weathershield exterior acrylic paint (10-year manufacturer s guarantee). Sign substrate is waterproof and insect-proof High Density Urethane. Signage components have layers and depth. Main text is incise-carved or sculpted. Three dimensional elements are hand-shaped or moulded. Aluminium frame enveloped in closed-cell EPS foam and coated with a 4mm hammer-proof flexible finish. Design Concepts Following are preliminary design concepts for Arbor Christian College. Prices are merely indicative as accurate prices depend on resolved designs.

25 Consultation Before our designers begin resolving designs, we request payment of a design fee. A preliminary concept sketch will be on your desk within a week of receiving your design payment. The design fee covers up to 7 revisions per sign. Design fee (excluding GST) Sign system design $1,250 For the development and design of a sign system involving up to 10 templated sign types. Design We will work with you to incorporate design changes until you are completely satisfied. You ll receive practical advice and suggestions to maximise return on your investment. When it s time for committee approval, we ll provide high quality images of the signs, design rationale, and statistics; all assembled in a comprehensive presentation. Delivery/Installation Call us for a quote. We arrange shipment of most signs at an additional fee of 10%. Some orders warrant special delivery arrangements. Although most clients ask us to arrange the installation of their signs, some schools prefer to do this themselves. Each order comes with installation instructions and phone support, making the task virtually hassle-free. Where applicable, bolt cages and placement templates are provided. Pricing Rule of thumb: $2,200 per square metre ($3,300 if double-sided) for dimensional signs; $1,100 for flat painted signs; posts, anti-graffiti and GST are additional. Call your Danthonia representative for a quote. 25 Fabrication Once you ve placed an order it takes three to five weeks to complete the fabrication (8 weeks for LED signs).
