4 The Evolution of Art Cave Art Paintings & engravings found in caves & shelters. Frescoes A painting done rapidly in watercolor on wet plaster on a wall or ceiling, so that the colors penetrate the plaster and become fixed as it dries. Murals Any piece of artwork painted or applied directly on a wall, ceiling or other permanent surface.

23 The Evolution of Art Printmaking: the multiple production of images on a variety of substrates under the direct supervision or by the hand of an artist. Woodblock Image is carved in relief in wood, inked and transferred. Etching A method of making prints from a metal plate, usually copper, into which the design has been incised by acid. Lithography Uses a flat stone or metal plate on which the image is drawn using a greasy substance so that the ink will adhere, while the non-image areas are made ink-repellent. Silkscreen A stencil process in which coloring is forced onto the material to be printed through the meshes of a silk or organdy screen.

34 The Evolution of Art Minerals Finely crushed natural stones and minerals in solution. Oil Paint Medium consisting of pigments suspended in drying oils. Egg Tempura Colored pigments mixed with a water-soluble binder medium, usually glutinous material such as egg yolk. Paint Tube Airtight container for maintaining and transporting paint. Watercolor Pigments suspended in a water-based solution. Acrylic Pigments suspended in acrylic polymer emulsion. Spray Paint Paint that is contained in an aerosol container. Tapestry - A fabric consisting of a warp upon which colored thread are woven by hand to produce a design. Quilting - Layers of fabric or padding joined with lines of stitching to form a decorative effect. Embroidery - Colored thread is used to create patterns on background.

The most common form of is the "lead" inside a pencil, compressed and baked to varying degrees of hardness Pastel Art medium in the form of a stick, consisting of pure powdered pigment and a binder. Oil or chalk Colored Pencil Art medium constructed of a narrow, pigmented core encased in a wooden cylindrical case. Crayons A pencil or stick of colored chalk or wax.

Manipulated Images Image manipulation is the art of transforming an image to convey what you want, rather than what the original image may have shown. Mobile Phone A camera phone is able to capture photographs and often record video using one or more built-in digital cameras.
