5 Step 1 Press Rotation (use the rotate tools to orient to the quilt). 1. L-Shaped Corners Important: Before you load your fabric on the frame, take an accurate measurement of the vertical border. This will be necessary as you chunk your side borders. Record this number for later use. Press Design. Press File. Press Open. Double tap on: D: Designs\HQ Designs\ Corners\Tulip Corner Press Baseline. Move machine to approximately 10 inches below corner (you will be creating an L shaped area. It does not have to be the exact size of the corner design.) (Number 1) HQ Pro-Stitcher, Stitching Sampler 5
6 Move machine to the top left corner. (Number 2) Move machine approximately 10 to the top right corner of the arm. (Number 3) Move machine to bottom of the right arm. (Number 4) Move machine to inner corner. (Number 5) Move machine to bottom of arm. (Number 6) (This will create the L shape area) Press Skew/Align. Placing Right Corner Return to the beginning of this section and rotate the design to the right corner by using the Rotation functions. Follow directions to create an area, reposition, resize and stitch out design. Use the Align tools and align design to the left and top of the area. Press Resize, Lock Aspect should be off. Press the + or to resize the height and width so that it will fit within the area (the area that you want to fit is the border height and width. The arms may go outside of the area. Press Quilt. Press Run. Verify Settings. Press Proceed. Stitch out corner design. 6
7 Step 2 With the needle positioned over that last stitch, press 2-Corner. 2. Borders Press Design. Press File. Press Open. Double tap on: D: Designs/HQ Designs/ Continuous Line/Tulip Border Move machine to the right corner and place needle over the first stitch of the corner design. Press Area. Move machine to top of tulip on left corner. Press 2-Corner. At this point you have a flat line on your screen. Type Y or height measurement in the Area Height keypad on the right side of screen. You now have the correct area measurement to fit between your corner designs. Area Box Press Ruler. Move machine to last stitch of left corner. Notice the Y or height measurement. Write down that measurement to use for the area height. The Area box will be created below the start and end points, thus needing to reposition the border. Press Repeat. HQ Pro-Stitcher, Stitching Sampler 7
8 Press Fit. This will populate the area with tulips, but may not fill the area from edge to edge. Press 2-Point End. Your border design is now rotated to the correct angle. Press Baseline. Press Reposition. Press Fit again. This will turn it off. Press Stretch Width and Stretch Height. This action will fill the area. With machine needle positioned at the start stitching point of right corner... Press End Point. This will line up the border with the corner. Press the Horizontal + button to add more tulips or the button to subtract. Is it stretched too much making them too wide? Or are the tulips too skinny? Press Baseline. Press Follow. Move machine to left corner to make sure that the border lines up. Press Quilt. Press Run. Verify settings. Press Proceed. You have created a design to fit a rectangular area box, but you may not have placed your corners on the same plane as in the photo. It may need to be rotated slightly to fit your corners. Press Rotation. Move machine to end stitching point of left corner. Press 2-Point Start. Move machine to start stitching point of right corner. 8
9 Step 3 3. Square Block (Top Left) Press Design. Press File. Press Open. Double tap on: D: Designs/HQ Designs/ Block/Block 11 Press Area. Press Clear if it is not grayed out. Move machine to the top left corner of the block on the quilt. Position the hopping foot on the inside of the corner. Move machine to the top right corner of the block with the hopping foot on the inside of the corner. Move machine to the bottom right corner of the block with the hopping foot in the inside of the corner. Move machine to the bottom left corner of the block with the hopping foot in the inside of the corner. Press Skew/Align. Press Skew. Design will be position into the Purple Area box and positioned correctly on the quilt. Press Quilt. Press Run. Verify Settings. Press Proceed. HQ Pro-Stitcher, Stitching Sampler 9
10 Step 4 4. Square Block Crosshatch and Crop Press Design. Press File. Press Open. Double tap on: D: Designs/HQ Designs/ Block/Crosshatch Square Move machine to the bottom left corner of the block with the needle on the line in the corner. Press Skew/Align. Press Skew. Design will be positioned into the purple area box and positioned correctly on the quilt. Press Baseline. Press Area. Press Clear (if it is not grayed out). Move machine to the top left corner of the block on the quilt. Position the needle on the line in the corner. You are now going to crop a star shape out of the center of the crosshatch square. Lay a star cutout of fabric on the center of the crosshatched block. Move machine to the top right corner of the block with the needle on the line in the corner. Move machine to the bottom right corner of the block with the needle on the line in the corner. 10
11 Press Area. Press Clear. This clears the area of the block so that you can now create the area of the star. If parts of the star did not stitch because of the location of the star on the crosshatch, you can go to Trace Outline. Move the machine to the top point of the star and press Multi-Point. Move to the inside angle of the star and press Multi-Point. Move around the star pressing Multi-Point on each angle. You will now see a purple area the shape of the star. Press Crop. Press Crop Inside. Press Stitch. Press Area. This will stitch the area of the star which is the purple line. Press Closed. This button will cause the machine to stitch around the outside of the star to the next crosshatch line. It may not close the entire star in but it will not have any tie offs. Press Quilt. Press Run. Verify Settings. Press Proceed. HQ Pro-Stitcher, Stitching Sampler 11
12 Step 5 5. Square Block (Top Right) Press Design. Press File. Press Open. Double tap on: D: Designs/HQ Designs/ Continuous Line/Cornflower 2 Move machine to the bottom left corner of the block on the quilt with the needle ¼ on the inside of the corner. Press Skew/Align. Press Skew. The design will look like this: Press Area. Move machine to the top left corner of the block on the quilt with the needle ¼ on the inside of the corner. Press Repeat. Press Horizontal + and increase to 2. Press Vertical + and increase to 4. Move machine to the top right corner of the block on the quilt with the needle ¼ on the inside of the corner. Move machine to the bottom right corner of the block on the quilt with the needle ¼ on the inside of the corner. Press Point 2 Point. 12
13 Check perimeters of block to assure the design is positioned correctly. Press Quilt. Press Run. Verify Settings. Press Proceed. After one row is stitched the machine will stop and tie off. The motors will be disabled and allow you to clip your threads. Step 6 6. Triangle (Top Left) Press Design. Press File. Press Open. Double tap on: D: Designs/HQ Designs/ Triangles/Feather Triangle 1 Press Resume. Clip threads and press Resume after each row ties off. Press Area. Move machine to the first point of the triangle on the fabric. Position the hopping foot on the inside of the corner... TIP: You may want to create the area a little smaller than the actual block. If your block is not a perfect triangle, it will always fit within your block. Going in a clockwise direction, move the machine to the second point of the triangle. Position the hopping foot on the inside of the corner. Move machine to the third point of the triangle on the fabric. Position the hopping foot on the inside of the corner. 14 Press Rotation. This will orient the design to the triangle on the fabric. Press the counterclockwise button. If you are not happy with the positioning, go to the reposition function and use Drag and Drop, or Nudge for more accurate positioning. Press Quilt. Press Run. Press Proceed. Press Skew/Align. Use the Horizontal and Vertical Alignment tools to align to the left side and top of the area. Press Resize. You may wish to leave the Lock Aspect unselected and resize the width and height separately. Use the Width and Height + and buttons to resize the design. 14
15 Step 7 7. Triangle (Top Right) Press Design. Press File. Press Open. Double tap on: D:Designs/HQ Designs/ Triangles/Triangle 1 Press Rotation. This will orient the design to the triangle on the fabric. Press the clockwise button. Press Clear. Press Area. Move machine to the first point of the triangle on the fabric. Position the hopping foot on the inside of the corner. Press Skew/Align. Use the Horizontal and Vertical Alignment tools to align to the right side and top of the area. Press Resize. TIP: You may want to create the area a little smaller than the actual block. If your block is not a perfect triangle, it will always fit within your block. Going in a clockwise direction, move the machine to the second point of the triangle. Position the hopping foot on the inside of the corner. Move machine to the third point of the triangle on the fabric. Position the hopping foot on the inside of the corner. 16 If you are not happy with the positioning, go to the reposition function and use Drag and Drop, or Nudge for more accurate positioning. Press Quilt. Press Run. Press Proceed. Step 8 8. Leafy Vine Sashing Angled Press Design. Press File. Press Open. Double tap on: D: Designs/HQ Designs/ Continuous Line/Leafy Vines. Press Area. Move the machine to corner A. Press Ruler. Move machine to corner B. Notice the measurements by the crosshairs. The measurement by the triangle found the diagonal length. The small circles represent the hopping foot placement in relationship to the block. Corner A Length of sashing Corner B Write the length measurement down. 16
17 Now find the height of the sashing using the same technique with the ruler. Height of sashing Notice it does not fit in the area box. Press Fit. Press Stretch Width. Corner B Corner A Write down the height measurement. Press 2 Corner. If you want design to fit the height of the area as well, Press Stretch Height. Press Rotation. Press Group. Type the height and width measurement in the Area boxes. Move machine to corner A. Place hopping foot on an edge. Corner A Press Repeat. Press Horizontal + making 2 repeats. Corner B Press 2 Point Start. Move machine to corner B. Press 2 Point End. Press Point 2 Point. Press Baseline. HQ Pro-Stitcher, Stitching Sampler 17
18 Adjust design for accurate placement. When satisfied with placement, press Drop. Press Quilt. Press Run. Press Press Area. Press Clear. Move machine to a corner of the sashing. Move machine to next corner. Repeat for the next two corners. You now have the accurate area on the angle. Press Reposition. Move machine needle to center of top edge of sashing. Press Start Point. Press Drag. 18
19 Step 9 9. Dinosaur Press Design. Press File. Press Open. Double tap on: D: Designs/HQ Designs/ Continuous Line/Dinosaur Ground and Grass Line Press New Start/End. Move Start Point to beginning of the grass on the second Dinosaur. Press Area. Move machine to the first point on the block. Position the hopping foot on the inside of the corner. Going in a clockwise direction, move the machine to the second point of the block. Position the hopping foot on the inside of the corner. Move machine to the third point of the block on the fabric. Position the hopping foot on the inside of the corner. Move machine to the fourth point of the block on the fabric. Position the hopping foot on the inside of the corner. You have now created the area to position the dinosaur in. Press Quilt. Start Move Stop Point to the end of the grass on the second Dinosaur. Press Reposition. Move machine to the area on quilt. Press Center. This will move the design into the block but not accurately position it yet. Press Drag. Move design to adjust. Press Drop. Press Resize. Press Lock Aspect. Use the Width or Height + and buttons to resize the design so that the center dinosaur fills the area. Press Reposition. Stop HQ Pro-Stitcher, Stitching Sampler 19
20 Use the Nudge feature so that only the center dinosaur is in the block. Step Large Square on Point Block Press Quilt. Press Run. Press Proceed. Press Design. Press File. Press Open. Double tap on: D: Designs/HQ Designs/ Block/Four Square Twice Find and mark center of the block on the quilt. Press Rotation. Press the Counterclockwise 45 button. This will rotate design so that it stitches the top part first. TIP: Go to Quilt/New Start/End to find the path of the stitching. Press Baseline. 20
21 Press Resize. Move machine to left corner of block. Press Ruler button on top right of screen. Press Center. This will position the design in the block on the quilt. Move the machine from left to right, X will measure the width of the block. Press Follow. Write the X or horizontal measurement down for resizing. Because the block is too large to measure the vertical distance with the machine, use a tape measure to find the height of the block on the quilt. Write the Vertical or height measurement down for resizing. Type in the width and the height measurement. Move machine to the three corners of the design to verify that it is positioned correctly. If it is off slightly, use Nudge in Reposition to adjust. Press Quilt. Press Run. Verify Settings. Press Proceed. Stitch the design until you have the last square on the design remaining. Watch closely so that you can press the pause button when it stitches to the center. Press Reposition. Move machine to center of block on quilt. Press Pause. Press Half Stitch on the screen or Needle Down on your handlebars. HQ Pro-Stitcher, Stitching Sampler 21
22 Press Disable Motors. Advance the quilt so that the bottom half of the block is inside the throat space. Check quilt and needle to make sure that the needle is not tugging on the quilt as it is in the fabric. Press Reposition. Press Current Point. The design and crosshairs on the screen will now be positioned to the needle in the fabric. Step Bottom Left Triangle Press Design. Press File. Press Open. Double tap on: D: Designs/HQ Designs/ Triangles/Setting Sun Press Half Stitch to raise needle out of fabric. Press Resume. Press Area. Move machine to a corner on the triangle on fabric. Move machine clockwise to second corner. Move machine to third corner. Press Rotation. Orient the design using the rotate tools. Press Baseline. Press Skew/Align. 22
23 Step 12 Use Horizontal and Vertical Alignment tools to align to left and bottom sides of area. Press Resize. Use the Width and Height + and buttons to resize the design to fit the area. 12. Bottom Right Triangle Press Design. Press File. Press Open. Double tap on: D:Designs/HQ Designs/ Triangles/Leaves and Scrolls TIP: Deselect Start/Stop. All lines will be visible and not be obstructed by the green circle start point as you resize the design. Press Quilt. Press Run. Verify Settings. Press Proceed. Press Area. Move machine to a corner on the triangle on fabric. Move machine clockwise to second corner. Move machine to third corner. Press Rotation. Orient the design using the rotate tools. Press Baseline. HQ Pro-Stitcher, Stitching Sampler 23
24 Press Skew/Align. By using the arrows on the ends of the slider, move the start and end points to eliminate the lead in and lead out stitching. Use Horizontal and Vertical Alignment tools to align to right and bottom sides of area. Press Resize. Use the Width and Height + and buttons to resize the design to fit the area. Press Run. Verify Settings. Press Proceed. Press Quilt. Press New Start/End. Notice where the green start point and red end points are on the design. 24
