2 CASCADE PASTAZA SHRUG ANIKA SIZES S, M, L, XL Directions are for women s size Small. Changes for sizes Medium, Large and X-Large are in parentheses. Materials: 5/6/6/8 skeins of Cascade PASTAZA (100gr/ 3.5 oz, 132 yards) tapestry needle, knitting needle size US 10 ½ (6.5 mm), crochet hook, thinner waste yarn. FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Center of back to wrist: 283/4/30 /30 /31 Length from center of back: 23.5 /23.5 /25 /27.5 Width: 40 /43 /46 /49 Note: Due to the design of this garment, the collar can be worn standing up or you can put it down like a regular collar. The length given is for the back. The fronts will be shorter. Gauge: 14 sts/21 rows over Stockinette Stitch = 4 /4 (knit one row, purl one row, repeat both rows), needles size US 10 ½ or size to obtain gauge. TAKE TIME TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Skills: k2tog: = knit 2 stitches together yo: = yarn over, wrap one loop around right hand needle M1: make one stitch Short rows: after you turn your work you wrap one loop around the right hand needle. Continue according to pattern. This loop will be purled together (p2togtbl) with the next stitch in the next row.

Now insert right hand needle from behind into the next 2 sts on the left hand needle through the back loops (the loops farthest away from you) wrap yarn around needle in the same way you normally would to purl and purl the 2 sts together. 4 Mattress Stitch (for joining the lace border with the main body): ssk Decrease: slip two stitches knitwise one at a time.then insert point of left needle into front of two slipped stitches and knit them together through the back loops with right needle.

5 Kitchener Stitch It is used to sew open stitches together so it will look like one continuous piece. -Right sides are facing out Set up: 1) on front needle: pick up first stitch purlwise 2) on back needle: pick up first stitch knitwise From now on you go into your regular pattern: 1) on front needle: knit, slip, purl 2) on back needle: purl, slip, knit TIP: Do not pull the yarn too tight when you sew the stitches together. The tension can be easily adjusted when all stitches are sewn together. When you break the yarn leave a long tail so you can use it for sewing both ends together with kitchener stitch. Row 20: k1, p29, k1 Repeat row 1 24 for size S: 13 times M: 15 times L: 15 times XL: 17 times After you have your desired length of the lace border (ending with row 24) you pick up the stitches from the provisional cast on. I would recommend to pick up the stitches with a smaller needle before you remove the waste yarn to make sure you do not loose any stitches. Arrange stitches so they will be in the correct direction. You will have only 28 stitches instead of 29. Add one loop cast on stitch on the side where you already have your yarn hanging = 29 stitches. Now connect both sides with Kitchener Stitch. Sleeves and body are worked in one piece from one sleeve end to the other sleeve end. BODY: Cast on 29/29/34/39 sts. Work over these 55/55/60/65 sts for 140 /146/146/150 rows from beginning. Place a marker on both sides of your needle. This will mark the center of the back and front. The half that you will be knitting now is the mirror image. Tip: The easiest way to count your rows is on the wrong side, with this project you can count the purl rows on the right or left side edge. Work 50/66/66/76 more rows in established pattern or 190/212/212/226 rows from beginning. Now you continue with decreases on both sides: Decreases are worked in Row * (see how decreases are worked) Size S: 191, 197, 201, 207, 209, 211, 213, 215, 217, 219, 223, 227, 229 = 29 stitches left. Work 51 rows more, all together 280 rows from beginning. Bind off. Size M: 213, 219, 221, 223, 225, 227, 229, 231, 235, 239, 243, 249 and 253 = 29 stitches left. Work 39 rows more, all together 292 rows from beginning. Bind off.

Bind off. * Decrease rows are always done on the right side. For example: Begin the row with k 2, ssk, continue in your established pattern to the last 4 sts, k2tog, k2. Finishing: Steam all pieces on highest setting of iron. Close sleeve seems to marker. Fold the lace border in half and mark both sides. Fold it in half the other way and mark both sides. You have now 4 markers evenly spaced. The 4 markers of the lace border get connected with the center of the back and front and the end of the sleeve seems. Right side out sew pieces together with mattress stitch.
