One-hour program with quilt trunk show. Saturday - January 5, , 6 & 12 Go Quilt Go Make a quilt using 3, 6 & 12 blocks, no mess! Students will decide on the number of 9-patch blocks and design their own layouts. In one day, students will be nearly finished with a pieced top. Sewing machine necessary. ( Supply list available ) Sue Rasmussen Quilt Artist & Teacher Thursday - February 7, 2013 Lecture A Desperate Housewife s Quilt Journey In this humorous presentation, Sue shares of her recent quilts, delighting the audience with stories that will make everyone giggle. Sue takes you through her development as a quiltmaker with her beautifully machine quilted and intricately pieced quilts. She discusses several quilts in detail: the importance of design elements, color, fabric choices, quilting patterns and the inspiration for her quilts. Saturday - February 9, 2013 Work shop Curved Paper Pieced Flying Geese Level: Beg/Intermediate to advanced: confident in paper piecing. Students immediately move beyond the basic paper pieced geese by adding a dramatic twist to them and design a small quilt (18 x 24 ) with curved flying geese. Students will learn how to design, draw, measure, and sew the pattern in class. Sue will discuss in detail many of the options available for using curved flying geese as borders or central design elements. Sue shares many secret tricks to paper piecing. This class is fun! It will open up new horizons to curved paper foundation piecing. 2 President s Message January 2013 I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone who had a hand in making our December meeting a success. Those of you involved in the Table Decorating Challenge really did a wonderful job. The tables were very festive and creative! The food was fabulous and our entertainers The Fallbrook Chorale did a fine job sharing their musical expertise. Last, but not least, a special thanks to Susie Alderson and Jewell Burke for being the brains and the brawn behind this endeavor. They put together a wonderful evening for us! Be sure you mark your calender for our next meeting on January 3 rd. In addition to our speaker Mary Tabar, Sandy Scott and her Quilt Show team will be presenting information about changes to the format of the November 2013 Quilt Show. 4 From the Hospitality Table Thanks for sharing in the fun and the Spirit of the Christmas Pot Luck on 6 December. The Fallbrook Chorale provided wonderful entertainment over the clinking of very busy forks and knives. The spread was incredible - salads, bread and desserts providing just the right balance of goodness with flat out enjoyable calories! The Table Decorating Challenge was a hit and friendship groups and individual designers alike put on quite a show of ideas and fun and flair. From thread spool Christmas trees on homespun tables to fine china we were treated to a wide range of décor all of it beautiful and a delight to share a meal around. Lou Cobb and her African Safari won for Most Creative. Shirley Fleming with frosty blue and white won for Most Joyful. The Best Quilting award was shared between Rosalie Mikelson and the ladies from the Sewing Sisters. The Best Christmas themed table was also a tie; between the Fabriholics and the Creative Needles. The gift exchange at the end of the night provided smiles and laughter all around, although next year we ll modify the words so that the packages can get all the way around the circle! We left wishing a good night to all, and a little more ready to embrace the Season. We ll be back to our normal time, our normal chair setting and our normal treats in January. With maybe just a few extra carrot sticks and fruit plates. Susie and Jewell FOOD DRIVE January, February & March Please bring donations for the Fallbrook Food Pantry. During the months of Jan, Feb and March we will trade you two tickets to put into the Monthly Birthday Table Drawing for bringing two items to donate. 6 The 2013 Opportunity Quilt FLOWERS IN THE NIGHT is 80"x80". It is machine pieced, hand appliquéd, has embroidery and paint embellishment, broderie perse stitching, and is hand quilted.
