2 Satellite Remote Sensing: What is Remote Sensing? "Remote sensing is the science (and to some extent, art) of acquiring information about the Earth's surface without actually being in contact with it. This is done by sensing and recording reflected or emitted energy and processing, analyzing, and applying that information." Eyes, Smelling, and Camera are considered as remote sensors.
3 Various Definitions of Remote Sensing: Acquisition and measurement of data/information on some (ies)of a phenomena, objects, or material by a recording device not in physical, intimate contact with the feature(s) under surveillance; techniques involve amassing knowledge pertinent to environment by measuring force field, electromagnetic radiation, or acoustic energy employing cameras, radiometers and scanners, lasers, radio frequency, receiver, radar, systems, sonar, thermal devices, seismographs, magnetometers, gravimeters, scintillometers, and other instruments.nasa. Remote sensing is the acquiring of data about an object without touching it.john R. Jensen. Remote Sensing is the technique of deriving information about objects on the surface of the earth without physically coming into contact with them..nrsa----nrsc (June 1995)
