Via Rte. 78 (from Western New Jersey) From Rte 78 Eastbound take exit 57 and follow signs for Rtes 1 & 9 and then for Rte 21 Northbound. Continue on Rte. 21 (McCarter Highway) Northbound approximately 2 miles through several lights. Just after traffic signal at Center Street, bear RIGHT at marked U-Turn. Proceed to the traffic signal and turn left onto Rte. 21 Southbound (McCarter Highway) entering right turn only lane. Turn right at second right turn signal, cross light-rail tracks and pull up to the gated entrance to the backstage lot. Press the intercom button to speak with Security and proceed straight ahead to the Security desk to check in. Driving or Walking from the Hilton Gateway/Newark Penn Station Exit Newark Penn Station at the Gateway West doors by the information desk and waiting area (near track 5). Facing the Hilton Hotel across the street, make a right on Raymond Plaza West and proceed to traffic light. Make a left onto Raymond Blvd. Proceed two blocks on Raymond Blvd. and turn right onto Mulberry Street (also named Ronald H. Brown Street). Walk 3 blocks, past Seton Hall Law School and several parking lots to Center Street. NJPAC will be directly in front of you. Cross Center Street and proceed to your left and the gray double doors marked Stage Door at the end of the NJPAC building. Press the green button to speak with Security and gain access backstage. Once through, proceed down the alleyway to the double glass doors and Security desk on the right to check in. 3 OF12
4 PARKING There is no designated parking available at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Paid automobile parking is available opposite the main entrance in the lot under Military Park and at other nearby facilities. Trucks and buses may not be left at the loading dock except by prior arrangement with the Production Manager. Vehicles that are left in the lot next to the complex will be towed prior to performances. LOADING ACCESS The Prudential Hall is directly accessible via loading dock doors off Stage Left. There is room at the dock for 3 tractor-trailers. Door dimensions are as follows: Loading dock bay doors: 119 W x 110 H Stage Loading Doors: 11-8 W x 18-6 H The smallest door to the loading area: 2-10 W x 6-7 H STAGING SPECIFICATIONS STAGE FLOOR The Stage Floor has a sprung floor system with a maple tongue and groove deck resting on ¼ neoprene pads. There are no traps in the stage floor. The use of any stage fasteners, lags, screws, or nails, etc. must be discussed. The use of rosin or other dance treatment is restricted to areas covered by linoleum or other dance floor coverings. Any damage to the floor must be restored at the expense of the visiting company.. 5 STAGING (CONT D) ORCHESTRA PITS Broadway/US Lift: 10-0 d (at CL) x 64-0 w. An additional 9-4 d under apron, US of this lift, is available. Opera/DS Lift: 11-0 d (at CL) x 66-0 w. Standard Seating Configuration is FULL SEATING on both the US and DS Lifts. As part of the Production s restore all removed seating must be returned to the Standard Seating Configuration. Seats in row AA CC (total: 77) are removed when the US lift is used. Seats in row CC FF (total:100) are removed when the DS Lift is used. Both lifts have presets at chair storage, trap room, orchestra pit, orchestra seating and stage levels. Please note that the DS Lift at stage level poses sight line problems for rows A & B. PORTABLE PLATFORMS There are 32 units of 4-0 x 8-0 Wenger System risers with skirts (subject to availability). Leg heights are in increments of 8 up to 40. Casters are available. There are 9 units of 2 H X 6 W, 3 steps Wenger Choral Risers with railings (subject to availability). A fourth step add-on is available for choral risers. EMPTIES STORAGE ACOUSTIC SHELL CONCERT TOWERS CONCERT CEILING Empties may be left in the loading dock or crossover hallway. Part of the basement under the Prudential Hall stage may be available for storage. Discuss with Production Manager. There are 11 concert towers, each 9-0 wide by 29-9 high that form the walls of the shell. Preset positions available are: Standard Orchestra, Orchestra with Chorus, and Recital. Within each tower are 2 sets of acoustic control panels as well as Production and Architectural lighting. The ceiling covers the entire stage house at a height of 37-0 DS to 32-0 US. The maximum height for drops that can be stored above the ceiling is 40. FORESTAGE The forestage reflector is used in conjunction with the concert shell. This reflector extends 36-0 REFLECTOR into the house and does kill some seats in the highest levels. SHELL STORAGE The ceiling and towers all store along the wall US. The stage house is clear to 49-0 US of the smoke pocket. The reflector stores DS of the proscenium and above the architectural valance. RECITAL EQUIPMENT ACOUSTIC CURTAINS The acoustic curtains are motor controlled absorption/diffusion panels. There are 2 settings deployed and stored. MUSIC CHAIRS AND STANDS Manhasset Music stands and Wenger Symphony chairs are available for Prudential Hall. 6 STAGING (CONT D) RIGGING SPECIFICATIONS GRID FLY RAIL The grid is 93-8 height above the stage floor and is made of 3" channel with wells 6-5, 19-6 and 48 SR and SL. The fly rail, stage right, operates from either stage level or fly gallery. However, the fly gallery has restricted sight lines. BATTENS There are 78 manual counterweight line sets typically on 6 centers with 73-6 long truss battens (1.5 pipe). The maximum loading capacity on each is 2,000 pounds. SEE LINESET SCHEDULE FOR EXACT POSITIONS TRIMS High Trim: 91-0 Low Trim: 3-0 Travel: 88-0 US/DS TAB PIPES Tab pipes are manual, 50-0 SR and SL of center, 5-0 to 49-0 US from the smoke pocket, 1.5 pipe. 7 LIGHTING CONTACT & POLICY All lighting and circuitry plots are to be discussed with the Head Electrician ( ). STANDARD CONCERT LIGHTING Permanent lighting fixtures (500 w par 56) are part of the concert shell and are controlled by a separate bank of 137 units 2.4 kw long rise dimmers. The standard concert lighting is a white, full stage coverage. Dedicated F.O.H.(575 w S4 5 & 10 deg) units are part of the concert lighting system. STANDARD REPERTORY LIGHTING See attached repertory plot. PRODUCTION LIGHTING CONTROL AND DIMMERS CONSOLE ETC GIO Current Software Version. Plug in stations are at the lighting booth, backstage left and right, and at the production table. Wireless tablet remote. DIMMERS HOUSE LIGHTS K ETC Sensor dimmers 7-6.0K ETC Sensor dimmers All dimmers are long rise time. The circuits are wired in dimmer per circuit. House lights can be controlled from two positions: the lighting booth, and from the downstage right equipment rack. There are five presets; full, half, concert, lecture, and out. Fade times from 0 to 60 seconds between any two settings can be set from either the lighting booth or the backstage panel. CURTAIN WARMERS Curtain warmers can be controlled from two positions: the lighting booth, and from the downstage right equipment rack. There are four presets: full, half, preset, and out. Additionally, there is a local setting that can be set from either the lighting booth or the backstage panel allowing individual settings for eight channels. In rep, each of these two channels control six individual Par 64 s from the high balcony rail and two individual Source 4 five degrees also from the high balcony rail; the later are frequently used for template projection on the proscenium walls. Fade times from 0 to 60 seconds between any two settings can be set from any of the three control stations. 11 BOOTH VIDEO MONITORING VIDEO There is a utility booth at the rear of the orchestra to SR of center. This booth is currently unequipped, other than an audio feed for monitoring or press. The building is wired to distribute both base band (CCTV) and broad band (CATV) signals. A color and black and white low light camera is located on the balcony rail focused on the stage. Onstage monitors are located in the stage manager s desk, DSR. A limited number of other monitors and cameras are available. PROJECTION There are three projection screens, subject to availability SCREENS 1 12 X 20 framed screen with front and rear projection surfaces, rigged to fly 1 15 X 20 framed screen with front and rear projection surfaces, rigged to fly 1 12 X 16 framed screen with front and rear projection surfaces, rigged to fly with dress kit and optional legs X 10 framed screen with front and rear projection surfaces, not rigged to fly with dress kit and legs BROADCAST CAPABILITIES PHONE SERVICE At the Prudential Hall loading dock there are provisions to provide electrical power and sound distribution to a mobile broadcast vehicle. There is a covered trough from this position that runs down the SL wall and across the proscenium to SR. It also runs from the proscenium to the nearest SL Grand Tier. See the Lighting and Sound sections for details. Additional Phone lines (Digital and Analog) are available and require minimum lead time to patch into designated dressing rooms. Ask Production Dept for current list. Internet and WLAN POWER Wireless access points are available on both stages, Production Hallway, lobby and Chase room areas, set up time required. High Speed Fiber is available to Cablevision for Routing to other sires, lead time for set up is required. Loading Dock - 400A, 3 phase, 5 wire, 120/208 Vac disconnect.
