2 Introduction The Health Fringe has long been one of the most established, well represented and attended aspects of party political conferences. The fringes are often high-profile, well-known and respected and accomplished at increasing the political visibility of health issues or causes. Nicholas Lansman, Group Managing Director Nick set up Political Intelligence in 1995 and has led its growth into other markets across Europe. Tech, Internet and health policy are his main focus. He is a regular commentator on policy issues and is currently Vice-Chair of the Association of Professional Political Consultants. The Labour leader Ed Miliband put the NHS at the heart of his party s 10-year plan for Britain s future during his conference speech last week, backing the NHS with funding from a novel windfall tax on the profits of UK tobacco companies and the proceeds of a mansion tax on homes worth more than 2m. Politically, the Conservatives need to show that they too are champions of the health service with the Chancellor George Osborne signalling their likely line of attack by tweeting that you can t fund the NHS if you can t fix the economy no doubt a subtle reference to the Labour party s poor polling on economic matters.
