So we partner with leading providers of diversity programming to develop a pipeline of brilliant students and young professionals prepared to enter our industry. We have an opportunity to change the face of institutional real estate and benefit from the valuable perspectives and talents that will take our industry to the next level. There is evidence that investment firms with employees of varied backgrounds perform better than less-diverse firms, and that has implications for the retirement accounts of teachers, police officers, and other city employees. 3 ABOUT PREA FOUNDATION PREA has pledged a gift of $1,000,000. BENEFITING THE CRE INDUSTRY The PREA Foundation has been established by the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA) for the benefit of the entire commercial real estate industry and will continue to be aligned with and sponsored by PREA, but will be a separate entity. All activities of the PREA Foundation will be conducted through its own Board of Directors and Advisory Board. No staff is currently contemplated for the Foundation. The Association will provide certain ongoing administrative services in order to keep operating expenses of the PREA Foundation minimal. INSTITUTING AN ENDOWMENT We are currently in the process of instituting an endowment for the PREA Foundation to fund its future activities to which PREA has pledged a gift of $1,000,000. The first step towards the PREA Foundation s mission will be the establishment of a real estate industry internship program in cooperation with Sponsors for Educational Opportunity. All gifts and pledges towards endowing the PREA Foundation, allowing it to work towards its industry changing mission, are tax-deductible and may be paid over a fiveyear period. 4 PARTNERSHIP WITH SPONSORS FOR EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY (SEO) ABOUT SEO Founded in 1963, SEO continues to be successful in its mission to close the achievement gap through its preprofessional programs providing Black, Hispanic, and Native American undergraduates training, internships, and access to careers across multiple lines of business. For over 35 years, SEO has been matching talent with opportunity in finance, law and the corporate world. PREA/SEO REAL ESTATE TRACK PROGRAM The PREA Foundation has formalized a partnership with SEO to establish its first-ever Real Estate Track, dedicated to increasing diverse employment in the commercial real estate industry. The PREA/SEO Real Estate Track will be SEO Career's first program specific to real estate. Support from the PREA Foundation will allow SEO to launch and sustain this program, hire a dedicated staff, develop real estate specific training content, host real estate related clinics and events, and enlist partners to provide summer internships. This program will target qualified undergraduates to participate in the Real Estate Track. SEO provides superior educational and career programs to young people from underserved and underrepresented communities to maximize their opportunities for college and career success.
