2 DG Represents ADCED at MEED s Middle East Project Finance Conference January 2013 Represented by the Director General, ADCED participated in MEED s Middle East Project Finance Conference 2013, which took place at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in Dubai from 28 to 30 January During the conference, ADCED s DG spoke about expanding the role of the private sector in Abu Dhabi through creating mega projects and providing finance opportunities to develop local economy in the next 20 years, in line with the Economic Vision 2030 Abu Dhabi. In his speech, the DG identified 12 economic sectors that can act as engines of economic growth in sustaining and diversifying the local economy, such as oil and gas sector, renewable energy sector, development and infrastructure sector, tourism sector, and the industry sector. ADCED Organizes Management Roundtable Discussion on Impacts of Ecosystems on Entrepreneurship 9th January 2013 ADCED hosted a management roundtable discussion at its head office, which was attended by employees and stakeholders. he roundtable discussion, entitled Catalyzing Game Changing Innovation, was presented by Professor Linda Applegate, Head of Entrepreneurial Management at the Harvard Business School. She shed light on the challenges of building new ventures and leading radical business innovation in the face of significant turbulences in industrial, technological, capital market, and regulatory areas. During the discussion, Professor Applegate shared with the audience her research on what governments around the world can do to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship, and presented another research she is developing to examine the emerging governance models to support inter-firm collaborative innovation. She also shared her views on the upcoming program Building New Ventures that Harvard Business School will launch in the UAE next year. ADCED Receives Students For Internship February During the 1st quarter of this year, ADCED has received two university students to complete their internship program at ADCED. Students Mahmood Mohamed, from HC and Hanan Mohammed, from the UAE University joined ADCED to do their internship for two months as part of their study requirements and to get a closer look at the nature of career life, and get advantage of the opportunities ADCED provides to develop their academic and personal skills. Hanan who is currently being trained in the CCD said: Akoun workshops that took place in the university during the past three years have given me the opportunity to meet with ADCED s employees, and get acquainted with the vital role ADCED plays to encourage entrepreneurship, which is in line with my academic studies and passion in this area specifically. Mahmood who is currently being trained at the SSD said internship at ADCED has given him the opportunity to learn about the economic policies that ADCED prepares to stimulate private sector s role in enhancing the local economy. He added: I was correct in choosing ADCED for my internship. I have learned about economic policies, the importance of Emiratization in the private sector, and its role in diversifying the local economy in general. Hence, I m still learning from my colleagues at ADCED who support and guide me to successfully complete my internship. Both students are looking forward to work at a relevant establishment and to continue their post graduate studies.

3 DCED Organizes Financial A Awareness Workshops for Soccer Club Players 12 th February 2013 In cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, ADCED organized two financial awareness sessions for the soccer players from various clubs in Abu Dhabi. he workshops which come in line with ADCED s Dirhami project were held under the motto How to invest your money in time of professionalism and were aimed at promoting financial literacy and raising awareness among footballers on issues related to managing their finances and savings. he sessions were moderated by Salah Al Halyan, a financial consultant and founder of Baizat financial consultancy, who shed light on the importance of rationalized spending, taking wise financial decisions to invest or save money. he workshops were attended by a number of professional footballers from Al Wahda, Bani Yas, Al Dhafra, Al Jazeera, and Al Ain sport clubs. Invitations were also extended to the parents of some young players to attend the workshops. F inancial consultant Salah Al Halyan introduced various topics related to entrepreneurship that could enable footballers come up with innovative business ideas for small and medium enterprises. In this way, they could invest their money in private businesses that would help them in their retirement and contribute to the development of private sector and Abu Dhabi s economy. I t s worth mentioning that the awareness workshops come in parallel with ADCED s two initiatives, Dirhami and Akoun, which ADCED launched four years ago to raise public s awareness towards managing their finances, savings, and developing financial plans to invest their money wisely as well as launching profitable and successful businesses. DCED Participates in A awdheef Recruitment Show February 2013 In line with its commitment towards Emiratization, ADCED participated in awdheef Recruitment Show that took place at the National Exhibition Centre from 3rd till 5th of February DCED has been committed to raising A the ratio of Emiratization, setting strategic objectives to support such a commitment. At the start of 2012 for instance, the SSD has set an objective to raise the ratio of Emiratization at ADCED to 60%, and to cooperate closely with Abu Dhabi awteen Council to interview and select candidates. In the last quarter of the year, the division managed to achieve this objective successfully by increasing the ratio of Emiratization at ADCED to 67%.

4 Following the Success of Akoun Initiative in Abu Dhabi, he Fourth Phase of the Initiative Goes Nationwide 17 February 2013 ADCED launched today the fourth phase of Akoun initiative with a workshop that was held for the first time at Dubai University. his comes following the decision to take the Initiative to all the seven emirates. he initiative is developed to inspire the next generations of Emirati entrepreneurs and empower them to enter the SME sector. he Akoun committee organized workshops in the Higher Colleges of echnology (HC), Zayed University, and Al Hosn University in Abu Dhabi; Higher Colleges of echnology (HC) and UAE University in Al Ain City; Dubai University, and Rochester College of echnology in Dubai, the American University in the emirate of Sharjah, Ajman University for Science and echnology in Ajman, Higher Colleges of echnology (HC) in Ras Al Khaimah, and Higher Colleges of echnology (HC) and Fujairah College in Fujairah. he enterprise awareness campaign, which began in 2009, has been expanded this year to reach more young Emiratis than ever before with a set of inspiring workshops and interactive activities that will take place at universities in every Emirate across the country between the months of February and April he workshops were marked by the presence of more than 1500 students and the academic faculty and administration staff. In addition, a number of Emirati entrepreneurs participated in these workshops as keynote speakers, where they shared success stories with the students. Among the most prominent Emirati pioneers who participated in these workshops are: Anas Bukhash, Fadel Al Muhairi, Ali Al Saloom, Ali Al aher and Azza Al Qubaisi. he Akoun initiative committee has announced the deadline date for students to submit their bright ideas to the Business Ideas Competition, which will be on Friday, 31st May L ast year, the committee overseeing the Akoun Business Idea Competition received more than 113 strong entries, with three winners in each of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Gharbia region. his year, competitors from the seven emirates across the UAE can participate by submitting their business proposals. hree winners from each emirate will be chosen. ADCED Delegation Visits Patients At Sheikh Khalifa Medical City 3rd January 2013 In line with its commitment to corporate responsibility, a delegation from ADCED visited today patients at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) in Abu Dhabi. Members of the delegation inquired about the health of bed-ridden children and elderly, met with their families and distributed giveaways. his created a positive atmosphere that brought joy and happiness to the hearts of the patients who praised ADCED s initiative, appreciating its positive impact on them and their families socially and psychologically. During the visit, the delegation was acquainted with the state of the art medical facilities and various sections and wards of the hospital. he delegation was also briefed about the awareness campaigns launched by the SKMC and the medical care and treatment provided at SKMC, which is managed by the Cleveland Clinic.

6 ADCED & Abu Dhabi Sports Council Sign Agreement of Cooperation March ADCED and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council signed today an agreement of cooperation as part of ADCED s efforts to strengthen ties of cooperation with strategic partners, achieve corporate excellence and serve the local community. he signing ceremony took place at the ADCED headquarter and was attended by ADCED s DG Fahad Saeed Al Raqbani and Arif Al Awani, Director of the Sports Care Program at the Sports Council. he ceremony was also attended by players Khamis Ismail from Al Jazeera Club and Saif Mohammad and Ali Mosri from Al Dhafrah Club. According to the agreement, both parties will cooperate in organizing sports events to spread health awareness and physical fitness among members of the society and with the participation of professional sports people. Retired athletes also will be given the opportunity to take part in such events to benefit from their experience. he agreement also provides that ADCED would organize a number of workshops for professional players to raise their financial awareness and encourage them to set up their own enterprises to contribute to the local economy and strengthen private sector in Abu Dhabi. On this occasion, the Director General said: his significant agreement between us and the Sports Care Program reflects our deep interest in the role of sports which is complementary to our mission to build a knowledge-based economy that requires young and healthy energetic people. he sports sector also contributes in promoting Abu Dhabi as a distinguished world destination for major sports events. Study: Brief Assessment of the Central Bank s Recent Circular on the UAE Mortgage Cap he UAE s Central Bank issued a circular to all banks & real estate companies on December 30, 2012 setting out the maximum Loan to Value ratio for individuals who wish to purchase property. ADCED conducted a brief assessment of the potential impact of such mortgage cap on both the financial and real estate sectors and provided recommendations regarding an optimum mortgage cap that guarantees the healthiness and competitiveness of the of the UAE economy.
